A competition magazine often contains news about the latest postal competitions, NPN prize draws, lists of winning slogans and competition related articles. The most "well known" competition magazines come from publishers Oxfordshire Press and Accolade Publishing. The main titles are Simply Prizes and Compers News. Competitors Companion (the magazine, not the unrelated website) and Prize Draw Winner were incorporated into Compers News in 2011, whilst Winners Friend was incorporated into Simply Prizes.
Away from the "mainstream" publications you may prefer to seek out independent publications. Published every month, Compers Grapevine provides you with a shopping list of current and forthcoming comps to look out for, detailed info on the current month's comps including answers to questions, Winning tiebreakers, General comping advice and chat plus adverts for useful comping services - entry form services, get-togethers and comping publications!
Our favouritism is towards the independent title as there's no strings attached to joining, although many compers do have a good word for Compers News. Unfortunately our view of Oxfordshire Press is not good due to their attempts in May 2011 to "review" Loquax and how we work. The content of their article was denigatory towards Loquax and resulted in us making a formal complaint to Advertising Standards and the article being removed.
However, we're of the belief that you should seek out other opinions, so our best advice is find out what real compers think of the publications and listen to the recommendations they make... reading them could save you money! Head to our forums and search around.
Prize Magazines
As well as the traditional comping "solutionist" magazines you can also purchase puzzle competition subscriptions like Prizes Galore, Take a Break, and Puzzler. These feature a wide range of puzzles and competitions for you to enter, often with big prizes.
