Retro Wilds Slot Review
Gamesys have gone back to the 80s and the time of arcade machine for their latest slot offering. Long before the modern game consoles like Playstation and Xbox gamers had to "make do" with simple graphic games like Pacman, Defender and Asteroids. The pixelated graphics were cutting edge at the time and now they're returning in a modern slot game called Retro Wilds.
Retro Wilds is a 5 reel 25 payline slot that's exclusive to Gamesys powered sites such as Star Spins, Heart Bingo and Virgin Games. It opens with a scene showing three old school arcade machines, each of which highlights the main features of this game. The slot itself is set on a Tron style background whilst an 80s inspired synth soundtrack accompanies gameplay.
How To Play
On the reels are pixelated versions of other Gamesys slot characters such as Tiki and Alice. They are joined by a heart symbol and a chemical flask to make up the higher paying icons. Playing cards J, Q, K and A are the low paying symbols. Five wilds on a win line will pay out x500 as will five Tiki Monkey symbols. The fox (?) pays out x250 whilst it's x200 for Alice.
Wagering on Retro Wilds starts at 25p a spin (1p per line). However this can be adjusted up to a maximum of £8 per line resulting in a top wager of £200. There isn't an Autoplay feature - something that Gamesys omit from there slots. We can only assume that the feature is rarely used and therefore they don't feel the need to include it in their games?
Retro Free Spins
There are a number of features within Retro Wilds. Firstly this is a cascading reels slot. This means that you can win multiple times on each spin. When a win line occurs all winning symbols are removed and new ones are added. This process continues until no more win lines occur. In addition to the cascading feature, called Raining Reels by the way, players can also win free spins.
The Retro Free Spins round activates when 4 or more bonus coins are collected from a single wager (these can be collected during the Raining Reels feature). Get 4 bonus coins to win 7 free spins. Each additional coin on the reels during the base game will result in an extra 3 spins. Bonus coins during free spins generate just 1 extra spin. During free spins the Bouncing Wild feature activates - wilds can be flipped back into play randomly - pong style - should they occur on a win line.
The Verdict On Retro Wilds Slot
Retro Wilds is a fun game with a large splash of gaming and 80s nostalgia. Despite it's retro theme the graphics on the slot are excellent and game play is smooth. The soundtrack is pitch perfect. We also found the game really enjoyable to play, the Raining Reels feature can generate decent wins and that helped maintain interest.
The big wins however can be generated in the free spins round. The spins, plus bouncing wilds plus raining reels mean that the 7 spins can generate multiple plays if luck is on your side. In our trial play we generated a x90 win thanks to the bouncing wilds creating some seriously big wins. This slot has a RTP of 96.32% which makes it medium to low variance. It's accessible on mobile, tablet and desktop - and we think it's well worth checking out.
