A couple of months ago we mentioned that Tombola were looking for players to feature in their new TV advertising campaign. Well that new advert is out now and yes it does feature lots of photos of players. It also includes lots of things we always see in bingo adverts, but the guys at Tombola have come up with a nice little twist.
A bog standard bingo ad usually features players sat on their sofas with their laptop, playing on tablets or stood at the bus stop playing via mobile. Tombola has pretty much decided to stick to this kind of formula but for the first time you see the games playing in a clever way.
For example, at the start of the ad we see a man (yes a man) playing Cinco on his mobile. Whilst we can't see what's on the screen there is a Cinco game projected on the kitchen wall. Likewise when we get the usual lady on the sofa with a laptop clip a game of Bingo 60 is being played, complete with dabbers, on her wall.
This idea continues throughout the advert as it demonstrates what games you can play at Tombola. You may also notice that the ad has a timeline of breakfast through the bedtime suggesting quite clearly that Tombola can be enjoyed by everyone at any time of the day, no matter where you are. Mind you we've still never seen anyone play bingo at a bus stop!
Another important element of this advert is that at the end there's a "play responsibly" message. This we suspect will filter through into our bingo adverts during 2015 but it's nice to hear it in an ad and hopefully will start a period of people realising the gaming industry is responsible when it comes to problem gambling.
If you submitted images to be used in the advert you need to wait until the very end of the ad for a brief chance to see if you made the cut. It's a nice touch to include the pictures but whether you can spot yourself in amongst the "Love Actually" style montage remains to be seen. All the above is accompanied by a nice music track called Bird and The Bees by Ben Cocks.
Overall we quite like this advert. Yes it's got a whole heap of "numbers" from our bingo advert bingo game but Tombola have been cute in their execution. They've taken the norm and enhanced it to a new level. It just shows you don't need to have gimmicks or irritating songs to stand out in the bingo ad crowd.
