Bingo Leaves Emmerdale - But For How Long
Posted by Jason Dale
For the past two years Bet365 Bingo have been the sponsors of Emmerdale. However, it appears that the relationship between one of ITV's top soaps and bingo has now come to an end. Whilst perusing the local South Wales News we noticed an advert for McCain's saying that they're on their way to Emmerdale.
The end of Bet365 Bingo's residency as the sponsor of Emmerdale brings to an end a long bingo relationship. Prior to the arrival of Bet365 in Yorkshire, Tombola were the sponsors of the bumpers - those small adverts that go round the TV show at ad breaks. Whilst this news isn't exactly earth shattering it does allow us to have a little bit of speculation.
Back in November, Gala Bingo launched the Coronation Street Bingo room - an exclusive location to play Corrie themed games and jackpots. Could it be that the makers of Emmerdale fancy their own slice of the action? It would have been out of order to launch a branded bingo room on a rival site to the one sponsoring the show, but now with McCain's at the helm, could Gala be free to step in and scoop another TV bingo exclusive?
Of course there could be a much simpler explanation as to why Bet365 Bingo has had their chips (see what we did there). According to CampaignLive, the McCain sponsorship deal is costing them a staggering £8million for two years. That's big money and it may well be that Bet365 have better options on the table. For £8million you could almost get a Spice Girl endorsement!!
One thing that always surprised us with the Bet365/Emmerdale relationship was just how little it was actually used. The site only occasionally offered Emmerdale tour prizes and there was relatively little on site highlighting the relationship. When you look at how Gala and have integrated Coronation Street into their system, complete with Reg and Fred bingo calls, it's perhaps not a surprise a change has occurred.
If an Emmerdale themed bingo room opens up at a popular bingo site in the near future then that wouldn't be a major surprise either - especially as we predicted it would be on the cards back in December 2013. Time will tell whether we're right on this one!
