ASA Stamp On Beautiful Blue Bingo Balls
Last month we asked where Jackptjoy's The Queen of Bingo had gone. Although she still appears in TV ads and is on the JPJ site there's very little evidence of her reign at the moment. That evidence is also going to be reduced thanks to Advertising Standards (ASA) ruling against one of the bingo site's blue ball jackpot adverts.
In the advert Jackpotjoy suggested that players could win "up to £10,000 jackpots every hour" thanks to The Queen of Bingo's beautiful blue jackpot balls. However, in the small print it states that prizes were in fact only awarded between 13 and 15 times a day - not every hour as suggested in the advert.
Two complaints were made about the advert as it was felt the advert was misleading. If a prize is being awarded only 13 to 15 times a day then it cannot be awarded every hour. Jackpotjoy countered by saying that the prizes were awarded every hour "during the core gaming hours, when the average person would be awake, to ensure that it gave maximum chance for entry". They also argued that the small print on the ad was more than enough to cover this issue.
However sadly for Jackpotjoy ASA upheld the complaint. They stated that they "considered that viewers would interpret the claim 'every hour' to mean there would be at least one jackpot each hour, for the entire 24-hour period". Furthermore they "considered that the qualification 'Min 13 games/day' contradicted rather than clarified the claim".
Jackpotjoy as Profitable Play Limited were told not to broadcast the advert again in it's current form. They were also told to "ensure qualifications did not contradict the claims in their ads". Let's hope that this isn't the end of The Queen of Bingo adverts and that we'll be seeing Babs flinging her beautiful blue balls around the screen again in the near future.
The Youtube clip above shows the most recent Blue Balls Jackpot advert and not the one which received complaints.
