Play Coronation Street Bingo - 90 Ball Bingo

Published On 27th December 2023

In 2013, Gala Bingo announced a partnership with the popular TV Soap Coronation Street. This partnership saw the launch of a dedicated themed bingo room, slots and other Corrie games. The bingo room gives players the opportunity to enjoy 90 ball games with calls made from former charcters. Initially these included Fred Eliot and Reg Holdsworth but today feature Jim McDonald (Charles Lawson) and Shelley Unwin (Sally Lindsay). Coronation Street has been linked to online bingo for many years. When ITV Bingo first launched for example there was an unofficial Corrie room. We expected that this relationship would develop with ITV seizing the opportunity to generate revenue from their own brands. However the Corrie Room was closed at ITV when Gala unveiled it's themed site. The latter has gone on to add further TV themed brands to their roster including Emmerdale and The Chase. In contrast ITV Bingo and it's sister brand Telly Talk both closed down.

About Coronation Street Bingo

When Gala moved from Virtue Fusion to the Entain platform players were pleased to see that favourites such as Coronation Street Bingo and The Chase went with them. However one aspect of the platform move means that the game is now no longer exclusive to Gala but shared with sister brands such as Foxy, Cheeky and Ladbrokes. The chimney tops of The Street feature in the background. Admirably the Entain developers managed to do a good job of transitioning Corrie Bingo to the platform although it does lack a few features from the original. When you login to Gala's Coronation Street Bingo room you're greeted with a typical looking 90 ball game. But we're missing the theme tune introducing the room, classic clips featuring many of the Street's iconic characters and number calls by the likes of Fred Elliot.

How To Play Coronation Street Bingo

Coronation Street Bingo is a 90 ball game and therefore plays in the exact same way as most online versions. Players select their tickets and aim to mark off one line, two lines or the full house before fellow roomies in order to win the prizes. Tickets cost from 5p and you purchase up to 48 tickets per game. On Virtue Fusion the various games had names that related to locations along the famous street including Roys Rolls, The Kabin and Rovers Return. To make the game more exciting Coronation Street Bingo includes a Golden Cobbles Jackpot. This is a community bingo card that remains in play every game. If the number called to complete a full house in the base game matches a number on the Golden Cobbles card then it is marked off. The winner receives a £5 prize. However if the number completes a line, two lines or a full house then a jackpot is won. This is worth up to £500 for the full house. Once the Golden Cobbles card has been completed then a new card is launched and the process begins again. Further jackpots can be won including a room progressive alongside hourly, daily and monthly pots as part of Gala's must drop promotions.

Classic Corrie Clips

One of the things that made this game a little bit more interesting is that after every game players are rewarded with classic Corrie clips. The classic clips though are brilliant and it's great to see Hilda Ogden, Ivy Tisley, Deirdre Barlow and Alec Gilroy back in action. Not only does it give you a wonderful sense of nostalgia but it made you realise just how good the show was back in the day. The clips did change to include the likes of Keith Duffy, Maxine & Ashley Peacock and Andy Macdonald. On Entain it looks like this feature has been completely dropped which is very disappointing and takes away a unique element of the room. We wonder whether it's because Entain couldn't stream the images or whether players weren't interested in these trips down memory lane? As mentioned above, the original callers have also been changed which is a shame because Fred Elliot was a perfect foil, i say a perfect foil, for the game.

Our Verdicts

When we first wrote about Coronation Street Bingo we described it as just a 90 ball game with a TV theme. The twist of the Golden Cobbles community card is good but it's no longer a unique feature in the bingo world. For example it has been adopted by Friends Bingo at Foxy (although that may well have been as a fore-runner for the transition of Corrie and Gala). However perhaps Corrie Bingo doesn't need to be any more than this - short of using characters as the bingo numbers - actually that would be quite fun. The games are reasonably priced and there's a few jackpots to play for too. However it does feel a little bit soulless as the elements that made it "Corrie Bingo" have gone. We loved the characters doing number calls and the classic clips emphasised the theme. Perhaps Coronation Street Bingo is a metaphor for the actual show. It's still popular but whilst maybe more polished it now lacks the character and interest of bygone days.
