Smooth Bingo Closes Live Bingo Network Doors
Published On 11th January 2019
2018 was the year when more bingo brands closed than launched. That trend is expected to continue in 2019 as companies continue to streamline their operations. Sadly the first casualty of the year has already arrived. Smooth Bingo have decided to close their doors after just under five years on the Cozy Games Network.
The decision to close Smooth has come as a big surprise. A quick scan through other review sites and none are reporting the closure. We received no notification that the site had shut it's doors nor is there any mention on social media. The website simply states "This website is closed" and advises players to contact support at Live Bingo Network with any queries.
Not The First To Go
Smooth, however, aren't the first brand to leave the Cozy Games Network in recent times. Tea Time Bingo recently made the transition from Cozy to the Jumpman Network. With multiple other brands residing on the Live Bingo Network and Best Bingo Networks we wouldn't be surprised to see more sites following in Smooth or Tea Time's footsteps.
The Cozy Games platform was acquired by GVC Holdings towards the end of 2017. Since then they've made huge strides in improving the offering for players. More recently they've added Foxy, Think and Cheeky into the mix which should help boost player numbers. However, the arrival of those bigger brands may well spell the end for many of the smaller ones.
A Perfect Storm
Smaller brands have been hit by a perfect storm of compliance issues, a declining bingo market and increased taxation. There's also a lot of uncertainty to the long term viability of running such a site so this leaves little or no revenue to for small brands to establish themselves against bigger brands. Facebook has also clamped down on gambling pages thereby squeezing opportunities to build a community.
We wouldn't be surprised if Cozy Games - now known as ElectraWorks - assessed that their bingo rooms are primarily populated by a handful of sites. Therefore over the next 12 months losing a number of brands will have no impact on them. They then can focus on the bigger brands like Foxy, Cheeky and Think whilst others fall the way of Smooth.
Could Slots Save The Day?
As bingo's star fades a little, the slots star has become much brighter. The popularity of slots continues to rise - at least until the UK Government decide to take action against them. Until then though you will find plenty of exciting slots on sites such as Snappy, Landmark, Gone and Harrys. There's also a brand new welcome offer for players who love slots.
Newbies can now claim up to 180 bonus spins on their first three deposits. Deposit £10+ using the respective codes to get the spins. The amount you deposit will reflect the spins offered. Terms do apply and these include a x40 wagering term on any wins from the spins. Wins are also paid as a gaming bonus (maximum £5).
