Bingo Bytes Bites The Dust

Published On 11th February 2019

2019 will be the year when a number of bingo sites will close their doors. The sector is already under increased pressure as operators have to deal ongoing compliance, age checks before first deposits and more increases in taxation. These changes impact the bottom line and that makes life difficult for smaller brands. Therefore there is an air of inevitibility that some will have to close their doors.

The next brand to fall by the wayside is Bingo Bytes. It's abrupt departure from the bingo world on 8th February became known to us in an email on the 11th. We're not sure if players have been notified or what the situation is for players who currently have accounts with the site. At time of writing visitors to Bingo Bytes were being redirect - without notice - to another Cozy brand, Landmark Bingo.

Most Popular Bingo Site

Bingo Bytes launched in 2010 and - as indicated in our review - regarded itself as "one of the most popular and comprehensive online bingo sites in the UK". This obviously wasn't the case at launch and most certainly hasn't been the case since. It's departure though is a surprise as it has been one of the longest serving brands on the Cozy platform.

This does make us fear for the numerous other brands on the network. Aside from perhaps Landmark and Gone it's hard to make a case for any of the Cozy brands to exist - and yes that does include our own Snappy. How this network will shape up at the end of 2019 is anyone's guess.

Cozy Casino Closures

The Cozy closures aren't just limited to the bingo network either. Windfall Casino and Spinsvilla Casino have both announced they are closing. Windfall will shut up shop at the end of February whilst Spinsvilla is expected to close immediately (although the site us currently still live).

The future of many other bingo and casino brands also hangs in the balance. Stride Gaming who own brands such as Kitty Bingo, Magical Vegas and Bingo Extra have announced that they're porentially looking for buyers. How this story develops will no doubt depend on who opts to buy. Whatever happens 2019 is going to be another busy one for online bingo.
