We guess that it's just coincidence that a month or two after Tombola launched Potion Bingo that another spells based game emerges. This new game is called Potion Shop and it's available to play exclusively at Sky Bingo. Whilst Tombola's Potion is a highly innovative development, Sky's Potion based game is a rehash of other Playtech 90 ball specials, including the now defunct Love Island Bingo.

How To Play Potion Shop Bingo
Potion Shop Bingo is a new and exclusive 90 ball bingo game that takes you to a magical world. A lizard and a few bottles of potion surround the bingo cards which have been given a scroll effect to fit in with the theme. One thing we do like is that the bingo tickets change colour as you get closer to completing either one line, two lines or a full house. Tickets for Potion Shop start at 5p each. If you want to maximise the features of Potion Shop then you should play at least six tickets. The reason for this is explained below. For the most part this is a 90 ball game so the numbers are called as you'd expect with the aim to get one line, two lines or the full house. In addition there's a progresive jackpot. Call house in 38 calls or less to win the community prize. The prize is split equally between the winner and other roomies.
Stir The Cauldron Bonus
At the end of each game players are awarded volumes of potion. Accumulate at least 500ml of potion by playing several games and you will be rewarded with a £1 bonus. Note that you must play at least six tickets in a game for this feature. The amount of potion awarded each game is the final call number multiplied by 0.3. We suspect you'll need to wager on at least 100+ games in order to get close to 500ml of potion and that bonus. This feature also appeared on Love Island Bingo but players had to collect water instead of potion. On some games you'll be offered a Potion Jackpot bonus. This is an end game awarded to players who have purchased six or more tickets. Note that it doesn't occur on every game. The game is an instant win whereby a cauldron of potion is cooked up. If it's a good batch of potion then one of three community jackpots will be shared amongst qualifying roomies. The chances of hitting one of these prizes is actually quite slim but it's a nice addition to the 90 ball game. It's just a shame it doesn't occur on each turn.
Our Verdict
Potion Shop adds a magical edge to the 90 ball game. We like the colourful tickets and theme. For the most part though this is just a typical 90 ball game. The Potion Shop bonus is a nice addition, but you're going to play at least 50 games for a mere £1 bonus. In monetary terms you'd need to wager at least £30 to receive a 3% bonus. Also it's more than likely you'll need to play much more as the volumes of potion awarded can be tiny. For example on one game we were awarded just 0.22mls of potion. At that rate we'd need to play over 2000 games! In our view this bonus needs better structure so that players have an idea what they need to wager to earn it. The end game bonus is a little more exciting but we don't understand why it can't be part of every game. After all if you purchase six tickets as required to get potion then why not have the end game too?
