Every now and then a new competition site or app pops up and we’re asked to take a look. That was the case with Use Curious or sent us a message via Twitter. Use Curious is an app that’s available to download for iPhone or Android (via Google Play). By answering simple yes or no questions you can earn entries for a daily prize draw and the chance to win £100.
When you first download the app you’re invited to provide date of birth, gender, country and county details. For each part you fill in you’ll earn extra entries, however you can choose to ignore that section. If you have a referral code you can enter that (TUVONC is our code if you want to use it but it’s not essential) or you can just skip to the question. We were asked whether The BBC was our main source of news – a simple yes/no answer meant an entry into the prize draw.
This all sounds very simple but at no point did we enter any details, so that does leave us a little bit curious how you win if you don’t complete the profile? We’d have expected that the app would collect your email address as an absolute minimum from the outset? How else can they contact us if we win because we’ve not given them any data!
Our advice therefore is make sure your profile has at least some contact information in it!
This isn’t the first question of the day type app that’s been in circulation. One A Day Polls launched in October 2016 and ran for about a month. With that you had to “answer one yes or no question a day” but “for a chance to win £500/$500 every day”. It turns out that one of the people behind One A Day Polls is now behind Use Curious!
It’ll be interesting to see if Use Curious hangs around a little longer than it’s predecessor! It’s a simple enough prize draw to participate in, but we are concerned by the lack of contact info being collected from the outset. We wonder how many people will download the app, opt now to complete the DOB, location details etc but then religiously enter daily and not realise they probably can’t be contacted!
