We were told that a new Mirror Bingo advert was on it's way this month but as yet haven't spotted it. By the time it appears we guess that their current set of promotions including the £10 free bingo with no deposit will be at an end. However, we did find something else on Youtube - an old school advert for newspaper bingo from the 80s.
Newspaper bingo was big business back in the day - if we remember correctly it was the late Derek Jameson who introduced the concept of bingo to the national press. The likes of The Sun and The Mirror as well as the Sunday tabloids would battle it out for sales by offering bigger and better prizes. In the advert above it's £90,000 Bingo Plus being featured.
As well as the cash you could also win prizes such as a car, motorbike, computer or video recorder - you can tell how much things have changed when you see the size of the gadgets that they offered. Mind you they were all tiny compared to the size of the bingo cards. Take a look at the ad, the card is six pages wide and printed on both sides! No wonder it took people ages to cross off the numbers.
We quite like the 80s advert even if it's just for a bit of nostalgia about checking off numbers and delivering newspapers. However, we think it's not a bad formula for online sites to consider for their new TV ad campaigns. The 80s are back in vogue so perhaps a spoof 80s bingo ad might attract attention? Perhaps that's what Mirror Bingo have up their sleeves?
