Like The Dragonfish Network, Cozy Games' Live Bingo Network (LBN) is sprouting new sites quicker than a Gremlin produces offspring after eating chicken after midnight. A number of The LBN's brands are due to a merger of another Cozy network, The Winners Network, but the latest addition is brand new to the bingo world - and we're wondering if the name is just a little controversial!
Buddha Bingo is the latest brand from 8Ball Games, a company who seem to own 101 different bingo sites. Like other brands on The LBN such as Landmark, Comfy and Aunty Acid the site offers the usual mix of 30, 75, 80 and 90 ball games. There's the ubiquitous massive welcome bonuses and of course side games and monthly promotions. Unfortunately 8Ball Games have limited interest in affiliates but there are plenty of alternatives offering the same product.
Regardless of affiliate status there has to be a little question mark over Buddha Bingo. We fully understand what they're aiming at with regards to the name. A Buddha is often seen as a lucky charm icon because rubbing the Buddha's Belly is associated with happiness and abundance. Many bingo players and compers use a Lucky Buddha to bring them luck and fortune. However we kind of feel that the site would have been better termed "Lucky Buddha Bingo". By not using the word "Lucky" the inference remains but perhaps not as strong as it could be.
In fact it kind of smacks of the trend of just adding the word bingo after any word to create a new brand. Buddha could simply refer to Gautama Buddha on whose teachings the Buddhism religion was founded and for us this is unsafe ground for a gaming site. The Buddha the bingo site is using is Budai in Chinese or Hotei in Japanese but you'd not know that unless you visited the site. You can find out more by watching the video above. We presume nobody will be offended by the idea of Buddha Bingo but you just never know in today's multi-cultural society.
However, this is by no means the most controversial name every used by a bingo site. The Holy Bingo made a very limited shot at gaining traction as top destination but the site, unsurprisingly, didn't last long. Whilst we don't think Buddha Bingo will struggle, we do feel that a long hard look at the name might be in order. A single word addition to the name could make a massive difference.
