Coral Poker - part of the iPoker Network - have recently launched a new variation of the popular Texas Hold'em game. It's called Six Plus Holdem and the main difference is that you play with a deck of 36 cards. All the 2,3,4 & 5s are removed from the deck to make for a game with different probabilities and hand ranking.
The video above, complete with a soundtrack that would benefit an action TV series, explains how the game works. Six Plus Holdem plays in the same way in so much you receive two cards plus the usual community cards, turn card and river. However as there are less cards in the deck things change for winning hands! For example you have a 31% chance of getting a complete straight draw in a classic game. However the chances increase to 48% in Six Plus Holdem.
On the flipside because there are less cards you have less chance to hit a flush. What this means is that in Six Holdem a Flush will beat a Full House. Likewise Three of a Kind is now more valuable than a Straight. Another important change in the rules is the Ace becomes a high and low card.
For those players who have become accustomed to the classic holdem rules, this variation of the game may come as a surprise. However Coral Poker described Six Plus Holdem as a breath of fresh air and something that brings new life to the game.
In many respects this is similar to what's happening with online bingo. The market place has matured and there's very little that can be added that's new. However to keep things fresh gaming operators will tinker with the number of balls (for bingo) and cards (for poker).
If Six Plus Holdem is half as exciting as the music in the video above then iPoker will have a winner on their hands.
