It's been a while since we've seen a bingo operator advertise a charity event so kudos to Mecca who are "doing their bit" this week. They're supporters of the Carers Trust and to support this excellent cause they will be donating profits from special games. These special games will be taking place between the 1st and 4th June.
As a Mecca Bingo player, you don't actually have to do anything different. All you have to do is play the Rank Cares charity bingo games that will run from 8.30am to 8.30pm daily. The games are linked and will take place in Two Little Ducks, Key to the Door, Dancing Queen and Legs Eleven. Mecca will then donate 50% of the profits to the Carers Trust!
You can find out more about Rank Cares by checking out the Community section on the Mecca Bingo website. So far this year they've raised over £25,000 - and £1.4million since they started supporting Carers Trust - although disappointingly only £75 has been donated via the Mecca Bingo Justgiving page. The site also says they Mecca hold charity games on the 14th and 28th of each month.
Intriguingly though we've never seen the Justgiving page or the charity games on the 14th and 28th highlighted on Mecca Bingo! Whilst we're not keen on bingo brands ramming virtual collection boxes down our throats, Mecca could do with doing more to highlight the excellent work that they are doing.
Give Back Bingo
Charity and bingo have combined a number of times over the years. For example Wink have supported Heart's Of Gold whilst Tidy have supported Help The Heroes. Unfortunately times have changed and charity bingo does seem to be less popular. Thankfully a new site - Give Back Bingo - is donating at least £500 a month to popular causes.
The premise of Give Back is the same as another site - Charity Bingo - but it's unclear what the latter is currently doing in terms of fund donations. The site does state that their "Charity Bingo Heroes Pot" is currently at £320 but there's been no statement regarding donations since August 2015. Thankfully Give Back do keep their players updated with donations!
Helping 52 Lives
And another site making a positive difference are Gala Bingo. They have been supporting the charity 52 Lives and they donate 100% of profits they make from selected games - not the 50% on offer at Mecca! So far Gala have raised almost £70,000 which then goes to helping people change their life. Some of those people are nominated by players which is fantastic.
Remember the great thing about charity bingo games is that you simply just have to play as normal. All the onus is on the operator to donate profits from the game. Our advice though is make sure any site that offers a charity aspect is keeping players informed of their donations.
