Last month we told you that Mecca Bingo had hired former Strictly Come Dancing star, Kristina Rihanoff, to teach three male celebs the Meccarena. Dean Fagan, Jordan Davies and Simon Webbe were her three pupils but could Kristina teach the guys the bingo dance inspired by Los Del Rio's 90s hit single?
The video above shows the 'Dance Off' between the boys. Kristina has done a superb job teaching them the Meccarena dance moves, but which one is the best dancer? According to the video you can vote for your fave with the hashtag #meccarena. However, we had a quick search of Twitter and found that it wasn't being well used.
Vote Via Facebook
The good news is that you can vote for your favourite via Mecca Bingo's Facebook page. It's a "thumbs up" for Dean, "heart" for Jordan and "wow" for Simon. At time of writing they'd been 400 votes with Jordan currently out in the lead. About 70 votes behind is Dean whilst poor Simon trails with just 25 votes. Poor Simon! We didn't think he was that bad.
We suspect that the voting may actually be based more on which of the three guys is fancied the most by the Mecca Bingo voting public and not on their Meccarena ability. Jordan also has the advantage of being more in the public eye than his two co-dancers.
Is The Meccarena Popular?
Although the Meccarena Dance Off is a lot of fun, we do wonder whether it's worked out as well as Mecca Bingo had hoped. For example, the collection of Youtube videos for the Dance Off has accumulated under 500 views - and the bulk of them were for Kristina Rihanoff's story.
However, the same videos on Facebook have attracted much more attention. Interestingly the views of the guy's individual stories reflects the voting: Jordan has 17K views, Dean 14K views and Simon just 1.4K views. The original introduction to the whole shebang amassed just under 10,000 views.
The question is has the Dance Off helped raise the profile of the Meccarena campaign? We're not so sure that it has. We do wonder when Mecca Bingo will actually launch a user dance competition and invite people to upload their own videos, something we think would have been better value!
Either way, the arrival of Sun Bingo's "Are You Gonna Bingo" campaign won't help Mecca's cause in trying to establish the Meccarena as a floor filler for 2018.
