Play Pulse Bingo - 36 Ball Bingo

Published On 15th February 2023

Tombola launched their exciting new bingo game, Pulse, in July 2014. Before it launched we expected that their new game would be the replacement game for The Heist. However as it turned out it's in fact a brand new bingo game. It's a 36 ball game and it's Tombola's answer to Speed Bingo making it fast and furious! Pulse was initially designed for mobile players and, as you'd expect from the Tombola designers, it's very well done. Are you ready to get your heart racing with this exciting speedy bingo game? Read on below to discover more about Pulse at Tombola.

How To Play Pulse

Pulse can be played in a number of different rooms which are open at various times throughout the day. All the rooms have speed related names such as velocity, flash, hasty, express, swift, spritely, zoom and sprint. Note that each room is restricted to just 90 players which gives Pulse some degree of Even Stevens. This is because once you've selected your room the choice is about your wager. Pulse is a multi-stake variable jackpot game - what this means is that you can choose your card price, starting at 10p and rising up to £2 via 25p, 50p and £1. Once you've confirmed the stake then you're ready to play. The actual game play area is quite minimalist with initially a cream and plum design and plenty of floating bubbles. These floating bubbles will eventually represent your bingo ticket numbers and you'll play on a bluey/green background that changes colour as your numbers are ticked off. In Pulse your aim is to mark off the 12 numbers of your card before your fellow roomies and therefore win the full house.

Heartbeat Bingo

The game's floating ball card is a bit gimmicky and at launch there used to be an option to make the numbers static. This could be done by clicking the "velocity" button via the options section that can be accessed by clicking the 'hamburger' at the top left hand side of the bingo card. Sadly this option looks like it's been dropped. However you can still opt to auto daub your numbers or if you're feeling brave then it's easy to switch to manual marking. Game play is exactly the same as any other bingo game. But, as mentioned above, to heighten the tension the bingo card changes colour as numbers are crossed off to a Doctor Who style sound effect. In the background a heart beat quickens as the number of calls increases. It all adds to the excitement - although you can turn the sound off if things get irritating or you're out and about. Other options that are available to you include changing the chat room size and the chat colour.

Pulse Jackpots

As Pulse is a multi-stake game, the full house jackpot amount reflects your choice. Obviously the higher your stake the more you can win. At time of writing you could play for around a £5 full house prize for a 10p stake but this increased up to around £70 should you have chosen to wager £2. Each pay level has it's own big money jackpots too and these can be won if you call within 16 or 19 calls. If you choose to pay £2 a card then potentially you could win £20,000! All the games we played in though saw winners in over 20+ calls. We don't know whether anyone has ever won the jackpot prize. The one thing that we think is lacking at Tombola is an indication as to when the calls jackpot was last one. It'd be nice to know firstly that they get won and secondly the kind of frequency that they're won.

Our Verdict

When Pulse first launched we wrote that we "were quite impressed with the game and it's all quite exciting - at least until you realise how quickly your bingo funds are diminished". However as with all our game reviews we like to return and update them. The Pulse rooms are now a little less busy and that does mean the chances of winning are a little better (at time of writing there were just 60 people in the room). Speed games weren't new when Pulse launched but Tombola's twist on the genre still remains special. In fact we're pretty convinced that Pulse was the inspiration behind Gala's Bingo Beats, although the latter is a 50 ball game. One thing that will be intriguing going forward from 2023 is how Pulse, a speedy 36 ball game, fairs against the new kid on the Tombola block, Bingo30.
