Slingo have launched a brand new game and it's called Magic Mine. They're claiming that the Magic Mine is the world's first true skill gambling game. It's based on the popular gems style games where you swap adjacent pieces to create lines of 3 or more gems of the same colour. The aim of the game is to collect as many white pieces as you can!
Magic Mine can be played from as little as 50p a play up to £2. With each game you have just seven turns to try and clear as many white gems as you can. As in games like Bejeweled, if you get lines of four or five then the gems get extra powers, which when used can help clear rows, columns and surrounding pieces.
If you manage to get a row of five then you earn a chest - these chests come in to play at the end of the game as they reveal bonus gems or the progressive jackpot which currently stands at around £1700. In the main game, you can win up to x100 your stage on Magic Mine - so that's £50 for 65 gems when playing the 50p game.
Unfortunately we found that the top prizes are quite elusive. We played Magic Mine a few times and only reached the 75p (35 gems) level once and got our money back twice. Although it's relatively easy to get onto the pay board (the lowest payout is 5p for a 50p wager) and you seem to win every time, rarely did you feel like you had a chance of beating the house. Is that down to skill or just luck? We don't know!
What's The Strategy?
That said we did find that Magic Mine was quite addictive. That's something about it that makes you think that next time you'll try a different strategy. The problem is - what is the strategy? The seven moves are actually quite limited so do you try to create lines of 4/5 lines or just wipe out the white gems as you can? The game offers no hints either so sorry guys but you're on your own!
Skill games have always been the poor relation in the gambling world. Magic Mine heralds a new dawn for the genre but will they grow to the same level as slots and casino. We're not sure, but if you play and lose most rounds then it's not something you'd return to. For us the only result we got from this Magic Mine was that it made our money disappear. However it has hooked us - and we will return to try again soon.
