Money Multiplier Slot Review
If you lament the demise of traditional pub slots then Gala Bingo's exclusive game from CR Gaming, Money Multiplier, may be of interest. It's not exactly like the old three reel Bar X games that you may remember but it does feature traditional icons such as lemons, cherries, and bars. It also has some unique slot features too including a high roller option, free spins and a gamble option. But is Money Multiplier a great game? We decided to take it for a spin!
Money Multiplier is a 5 reel, 10 payline slot that can be played at Gala Bingo and many other online slots and bingo brands. The design at time of launch was probably quite cool, but in 2023 it looks a little bit retro. The background is a black and dark blue design whilst the symbols on the reels are stylish but basic. The symbols comprise of grapes, lemons, cherries, melons, silver bars, gold bars and Money Multiplier symbols. The gold bars are the highest paying symbol with a x50 payout for five of a kind. Wagering on Money Multiplier starts at just 10p, but this can be toggled up to a maximum of £50. Whether this maximum stays depends on whether The UKGC implements £2 limits on online slots play. An Autoplay feature which we covered back in 2016 has already been dropped because of UKGC interventions.
High Roller
Another possible UKGC banana skin for this slot is the gamble feature. Currently it can be toggled on and off. If you select to have it on then when you get a win you'll be able to gamble. You can select the type of gamble you'd like to do - the more you aim to collect the less chance of winning you have. The gamble is straightforward, spin the wheel and hope it ends up as a "Win" and not a "Lose". Another feature at risk is the High Roller element of the game. If you're feeling flush then you can select the option to play the High Roller game. Now we're not 100% sure how these work as we didn't fancy trying them. However, they're essentially five normal games rolled into one but at a price of £20, £30 or £50. The difference between the prices is the starting point. For example Scatter Reels are active at £50 and win lines are paid from left, right or centre - whatever that means. Sorry but we're not gambling £50 to find out. We suggest you don't either.
Free Spins
Aside from those features of the game, Money Multiplier does have others that are less problematic. Land three or more Money Multiplier symbols on the reels during a spin to activate the free spins bonus round. Three MM symbols gives you 10 free spins, 4 MM symbols gives you 15 free spins and five MM symbols results in an award of 20 free spins. If during the bonus round the MM symbol appears then the money multiplier bonus is triggered. The player then has to stop the dapple on a multiplier in order to boost their wins. These multipliers then stack up if more MM symbols appear during the game. At the end of the free spins bonus, if any unused multipliers remain in the multiplier stack then the bonus win spins round is triggered. It all sounds very confusing and a little bit excessive for a bonus round but all the information is explained in very small text on the game itself.
The Verdict
Money Multiplier has a retro charm about it but back in 2016 we described it as being "thoroughly modern with it's look and feel". A few years on we'd suggest it has a retro charm but also now looks retro! The game play is good and it's nice to play a slot without too many bells, whistles and annoying sounds. That said it did become a little less fun after a fairly long losing streak - and with no sign of the feature being engaged our interest rapidly drained. The gamble element is a nice touch - although we suspect it won't be part of the game long term. Overall Money Multiplier makes a nice change from more elaborate games of it's time, but compared to the likes of Rainbow Riches and Starburst we don't think it's stood the test of time as well.
