In For A Penny Slot Review

In For A Penny is the new Saturday night entertainment show hosted by Stephen Mulhern. It originated as a segment within Saturday Night Takeaway and saw contestants answer five questions in order to turn 1p into £1000. CR Games alongside Gala Bingo have decided that this fun show is the perfect foil for a brand new slot game.

In For Penny Slots

In For A Penny is a 5 reel 10 payline slot. It's set on a blue background although look closely and you'll see landmarks from cities such as London and Cardiff. The reels feature mainly card symbols (10, J, Q, K and A) plus Stephen's Gold Jacket. This is the highest paying symbol and pays x50 for a £1 stake.

High Roller Spins

However, if you look into In For A Penny slot you'll find that there are three paytables. The additional tables are a £20 and £30 high roller table plus a £50 High Roller table. With these options the paytables drop in multiplier value but additional features become active. For example at £20 Epic Wilds and Each Way Pays come into play.

You don't need to be a high roller to play In For A Penny slots. Wagering starts at 10p. To change the wager you need to click the hamburger on the right side of the slot then select stake. This isn't the most user friendly of slots for setting stake! As well the stake options, the hamburger gives you options for autoplay and turning on the gamble feature.

Bonus Round

In For A Penny comes into it's own during the bonus round. This is activated when 3 scatter symbols, represented by Mulhern and the show logo, appear on the reels. At this stage you can collect the feature or gamble for the next feature or mystery win. The features include High Low To Go, Mulhern's Offer, Hula Moolah, Stopwatch Games and In For A Penny Bonus.

During game play random features may also activate. These include a Reel Drop Bonus, Respin Bonus and That's A Big 'Un Bonus. Each of these bonuses should create or in the case of the latter improve a win. The slot claims a 91% RTP using a random strategy or a 95% using the best strategy. It's unclear what is meant by best strategy in terms of the game.

The Verdict

We're big fans of the In For A Penny show but can't quite muster the same enthusiasm for this slot. It doesn't look great graphically and is quite limited with respect to relying heavily on playing card symbols. It also feels a tad ironic that a slot named In For A Penny has expensive high roller options at £20, £30 and £50.

What makes the TV Show are the feature games and we suspect that may be the case here. However without getting to see them it's hard to report whether this slot is greatly improved. The RTP puts it in the low variance category although we suspect "best strategy" actually means wager more. In For A Penny is a great idea for a slot but we're not sure if this quite hits the mark. In For A Penny is exclusive to Gala Bingo so why not don your glittery gold coat and spin it for yourself?
