Cluedo Mystery Slot Review
Monopoly has pretty much monopoloised the board game meets slots department of late. However surely it's high time for another board game to emerge from the shadows? Cluedo, the murder mystery game from Hasbro, has already had an outing as a slot game. Howver, this week, Gamesys have launched a new slot that we think blows it's rivals - and the Monopoly suite - out of the water.
Cluedo Mystery is a 3 row, 5 reel, 243 payline slot. If you've never heard of Cluedo (or Clue as we believe it's known in The US) then here's a quick overview. The aim of the game is to solve a murder mystery. Players move around the board to collect cards and by using powers of deduction to determine a murderer, murder weapon and location of the dirty deed. Converting that to a slot seems a tall order, but Gamesys have managed it.
How To Play Cluedo Mystery
On the reels you'll find the usual suspects and weapons from the board game. These include Professor Plum, Reverand Green, Miss Scarlet, Mrs Peacock, Mrs White and Colonel Mustard. Wilds are the highest paying symbols with x200 for five on a win line. You'll get x100 for Miss Scarlet, x90 for Mustard and x80 for White. Low paying symbols are represented by a revolver, rope, candlestick and spanner.
Wagering on Cluedo Mystery starts at just 10p a spin. The wager can be increased up to a maximum of £20. There's no autoplay option - something which is always missing on a Gamesys slot. Note that changing your wager during a session has an impact on the game. When you first start a game - e.g. 10p a spin - then you're assigned a new murder mystery case to solve (more on that below). Changing the wager to 20p assigns another case to that wager. Change back to 10p and you continue the 10p case.
Murderer Wild Bonus
At the start of a game you have a mystery to solve. To help you on your way you initially receive 6 murder cards - two locations, two suspects and two weapons - to discount. The aim is to solve the murderer, weapon and location by wagering on the slot. Random murder cards may appear on reel 3 to help with your deduction. If the board and dice symbols land on reels 1 and 5 then you qualify to make a guess. Get the guess wrong and eliminate more cards from your enquiry. Guess correctly and you initiate the Murderer Wild Bonus.
The Murderer Wild Bonus offers unlimited free spins. All wilds and those of the murderer become wild. Each reel also represents one of the other suspects. When a murderer wild lands on a reel the token above the reel is crossed off. Unlimited spins ends when all five reels have been crossed off. Tokens can be reactivated if the corresponding suspect lands on their respective reel. In truth this part of the game is better understood in action rather than description.
Cluedo Mystery is an exciting and engrossing slot. Perhaps that's due to familiarity of the game or the fact that Gamesys have done an exceptional job. The dice and board game symbols did pop up with reasonable frequency and this means plenty of guesses to get to the free spins. We like the fact that you don't need to eliminate all the murder cards as a lucky guess can get you into the bonus round.
The bonus round itself can generate big wins. The number of spins varies considerably but you're guaranteed a minimum of 5. On one bonus round we received over 30 spins. Once the bonus round has completed you're invited to change the wager and/or start a new case. The only grumble with the game is that there's no autoplay on the base game. That aside though there's nothing not to like here.
