Star Clusters Megaclusters Review
Big Time Gaming have made a massive impact with online slots thanks to their popular Megaways engine. Now they're hoping to repeat that success with another exciting innovation. Star Clusters is the first title featuring Megaclusters. A Megaclusters slot is described as a "symbol matching game where winning symbols split and react". We'd describe it as Starburst gems meet cascading reels meet megaways meet something fun and original.
Star Clusters is played on a 4x4 grid that is filled with gem symbols and stars. The design of the game is quite stylish. A gold console encapsulates the gems which stand out on their black background whilst orange and yellow beams radiate out from behind the grid. At the bottom right of the game window you'll find the play button and autoplay button whilst your stake can be adjusted using the buttons on the left of the screen.
How To Play Star Clusters
To play Star Clusters you first need to set a stake by using the left and right arrows on the left. The minimum wager is 20p whilst the maximum is £10. Payouts are multiplied by your initial stake. If you prefer you can set up an Autoplay option and this can be set based on number of spins, loss limit and single win limit. Once you're happy you can then hit the play button to start your spin of Star Clusters.
After hitting play the reels will spin and the 4x4 grid refilled with gems and maybe stars. To win on Star Clusters you need 5 or more matching symbols of any size. These symbols must be adjacent to each other either horizontally or vertically. When a win occurs each winning symbol is replaced by four smaller symbols. If wins occur with the smaller symbols these collapse downwards and new symbols are added. This process occurs until there are no further wins.
You may see stars appear on the grid. These act as wilds for all symbols except for Gold wilds. Gold wilds are multipliers and increase your win accordingly during a single round. This multiplier is reset unless you activate the bonus round during your game. The bonus round is triggered when 5 or more reactions occur during the base game. Note that the free spin round is played on an 8x8 grid instead of the base game's 4x4.
If you do manage to activate the bonus round then you'll receive 2 free spins plus one for each reaction beyond the fifth. As mentioned the multipliers carry over into the bonus spins. If the Gold Wild Multiplier reaches x10 then an additional 2 free spins are awarded. We would love to tell you more about the bonus round on Star Clusters but during game play we weren't able to trigger the free spins.
Star Clusters is an exciting addition to the slots world. It takes elements of popular gem games and mixes them up with a clever variation on the Megaways engine. The design is stylish and gameplay incredibly smooth. We like the fact that you can wager from just 20p and we suspect The UKGC will be happy that this game has an upper limit of £10. That said it can be, at least initially, a little confusing to figure what is going on. Symbols drop in on one grid and then reactions occur to create more symbols and a bigger grid.
During our trial of Star Clusters we picked up a few small wins which were less than our initial stake. A handful were slightly bigger and the best was x5 the stake. The closest we got to activating the bonus round was four reactions! Star Clusters has a Return To Player (RTP) of 96.54% and we'd suggest this is a medium to high volitility game. We think this format will be very popular with players and expect to see more games using the Megaclusters engine in the near future.
