Gonzos Quest Megaways Slot Review
Gonzo's Quest was launched by Net Entertainment in 2011. This popular 5 reel 20 payline slot that features Gonzo in search for Eldorado has been given the Megways treatment. This means that it now has potentially 117,649 different ways to win. But does this classic game with it's avalanche multipliers really need the Megaways treatment and do these extra paylines improve on the original?
When you load up Gonzo's Quest Megaways the game looks pretty much like the original. The major difference is that this version now has 6 reels and multiple paylines thanks to the Megaways engine. The Inca style icons and images that you may be familiar with are all the same whilst Gonzo watches proceedings from the left of the screen. The multiplier levels are shown at the top right whilst the Megaways paylines that are available are shown top left.
How To Play Gonzo's Quest Megaways
Megaways slots differentiate from normal slots in that winning symbols do not have to be touching on adjacent reels. Wins are awarded when matching symbols, regardless of size, land from left to right where the first symbol is on the leftmost reel. The size of the symbols on the reels determine the potential number of paylines. The greater the number of smaller symbols on the reels then the more paylines that potentially are available.
To play Gonzo's Quest Megaways you need to select your initial wager. Adjust the stake button up and down to determine how much you wish to spend per spin. The minimum wager is 20p whilst the maximum is £10. An Autoplay option is available the minimum number of spins for this feature is 20. A loss limit needs to be set as a requirement and this is the first time we've noted this particular feature on a slot. Other Autoplay options include a stop on win and stop on bonus feature.
As in the original game any winning lines result in avalanche multipliers. Winning symbols explode and are replaced with new symbols. This continues until there are no more wins during that turn. Each win results in an increase in the multiplier (x1, x2, x3 and x5). These multipliers increase by three during the free spins round. This bonus round is activated when three or more Free Fall symbols appear on the reels. You can win 9, 12, 15 or 18 free spins depending upon the number on the reels.
Another feature to look out for whilst playing Gonzo's Quest Megaways is the Earthquake symbol. This is a feature that you won't find on the original Gonzo's Quest. Earthquake symbols destroy all low-paying symbols allowing only high paying symbols to take their place. The maximum that you can win on this particular game is x20,000 your original stake. This is much higher than the original game which offers x2500 for the highest paying symbols on a 5 of a kind win line.
Taking a classic game and giving it a boost with the Megaways engine is nothing new. However in our view adopting this approach means the Megaways version must at least be as good as the original. Thankfully in this case we actually think the Megaways engine actually improves the slot. Gameplay is a lot smoother than the clunky avalanched boxes that make up the reels on Gonzo's Quest. Graphically the megaways version is a lot more pleasing to play too.
We took Gonzo's Quest Megaways for a spin and really enjoyed it. This may well be due to a nice x100 win we achieved during the Free Fall bonus round. We suggest you try both versions of the slot if you've not played either before. Both are available to play for free in demo mode at Jackpotjoy. The Megaways engine can be a little bit confusing at first but here it's been put to good use giving Net Entertainment another impressive title for their roster.
