Slingo Ante Up Review
To date we've reviewed 20 different versions of Slingo and barring a few tweaks and quirks they're pretty much very similar in game play. Basically players have a fixed number of spins in the base game and then can play on by purchasing extra spins. The latest addition to the Slingo stable, Ante Up complete with it's retro Vegas theme, however turns things upside down. Instead of choosing to spin on at the end of the game players choose the extra spins at the start of the game.
Ante Up is inspired by Vegas because "there's only one constant in Vegas and that's change". The look and design of Ante Up is quite basic. It's a step up from the 20th Anniversary classic version that was recently launched but still fairly basic. A few neon lights and a casino background noise soundtrack transform you to Vegas. In many respects we actually prefer the simplicity of Ante Up. And that simplicity comes through even more when getting started with the game.
How To Play Slingo Ante Up
The aim of Slingo Ante Up is to get lines - horizontal, vertical or diagonal - of five numbers. With Ante Up you can start with just 10 spins but here's where things differ from all other versions. The blurb on Slingo Originals says that you can change the volatility of the game by deciding to play more or less spins. However the RTP remains at 95% regardless. The number of spins you decide to play will also determine the wager that you play. For example if you play 10 spins it may cost you £1 but for 9 spins the wager drops to 56p. The maximum spins you can choose to play is 16 spins but you'll be playing almost x15 the base wager.
Wagering on this version of Slingo starts at 20p. This can be increased up to a maximum of £25 (Gala Spins). The minimum and maximum wager may vary from site to site. Once you start the game the spins are automatic so you don't need to keep hitting the spin button. Each spin generates five numbers below the 5x5 grid. If any numbers match then these are marked off. When you complete a row of five numbers then you move up the prize board. The more lines you complete the higher up the prize board you progress. During game play you may pick up free spins, jokers (wilds) and devils. The latter prevent you from marking off a number.
Win Up To £12,500
Slingo Ante Up doesn't have the big features of more recent additions to the Slingo stable. If you complete a full house of Slingos then this results in a win of x500 your initial stake. This is identical to the set up of Slingo Classic. If you choose to play the highest possible wager then the maximum prize that you can win is £12,500. The number of spins that you choose to play also has no influence on the jackpots that are available. Once you have completed all the spins on Ante Up, including any free spins, then it's game over. There are no options to play on!
Because Ante Up is different to other Slingo games there are no wagering limit options that are available on other games. In Slingo Berserk for example you can restrict the amount of money that you choose to wager on with. Of course it's not needed on Ante Up because you don't have the option to wager on, but there is the issue of choosing to spend your money at the start. And this is essentially what Ante Up is - it's the Slingo game that we all know and love, but in reverse.
The Verdict On Slingo Ante Up Review
You might be wondering why Slingo have decided on a format change? Is it because they just fancied something new or is there method in the madness? We think the latter as The UKGC are looking at slot mechanics and how they may encourage gamblers through incentives. We suspect that offering players the chance to win £xxx if they gamble £x as is done in Slingo games to date may actually come under some scrutiny in the future. By introducing the reverse format to this now then Slingo can potentially retro fit their games!
We have to say that actually we like this format of Slingo. We've never been big fans of the play on feature simply because it feels like a bit of a rip-off. Now you can decide how much you wish to spend and play your Slingo game. But does the number of spins improve your chances of winning? We don't think it does and winning on Ante Up is as equally as hard as every other version of this game. Overall though we can't imagine players opting to wager nearly £400 on a spin of Ante Up. But it might be worth playing with a lower initial wager and adding more spins to see if that improves your win ratio.
