Twerking Cactus With Mecca Bingo Offers
Added on Wednesday 3rd September 2014
Sometimes you think you've seen it all when it comes to bingo advertising. From dancing dogs to singing jalapenos and kittens to racing grannies surely there's no where else to go. Oh no! The folks over at Mecca Bingo have trumped every advert so far in 2014 by introducing a twerking cactus!
The Twerking Cactus advert starts off like a shampoo advert with a woman from Mecca Bingo dressed in a white coat looking all very serious. However she's not about to tell you about the chemical reactions between molecules in the shampoo and your hair. Instead Dr Paula Legg (Pull Your Leg?) explains she's wearing a white coat and that's how she knows we know that we like Dancing Cactus' (surely that's cactii?).
Dr Paula also knows we like brilliant offers and that's a cue for the dancing cactus to tell us about Mecca Bingo's latest promotion. What we then get is a surreal moment in TV bingo advertising history when a man in a cactus suit does a dance, explains that a deposit of £10 gets you £50 to play, and then another dance. The ad finishes with a voice over (Gabrielle Glaister?) repeating the offer.
Where do we start? The twerking cactus is just plain weird! Fun but weird. He has a Antonio Banderas accent and in many ways it does remind us of the Virgin Bingo Jalapeno ads of old. Mecca are hoping that this advert will attract some social media virality as they've even set up a Twitter account for @Twerking_Cactus.
Intriguingly cactus dancing is not new. According to The Urban Dictionary a cactus dance is a tasteless dance that can "completely ruin a friendly gathering, scare off predators, and summon demons". We suspect that Mecca Bingo will be hoping that their twerking succulent will not have any of those effects on their playing numbers.
The cactus advert is the first in a series of three new ads coming from Mecca Bingo. We understand that a new character will be revealed in each one so we're very interested to see just how they top the Twerking Cactus. If this isn't a front runner for bingo advert of the year then there's no justice!
