Meet Maxine The Jackpotjoy Home Assistant

Added on Friday 28th December 2018

Jackpojoy have launched a brand new TV campaign featuring Paddy McGuinness. The series of ads features a smart speaker gadget along the lines of the Amazon Echo or Google Home Speaker. Instead of asking Alexa or Google, Paddy asks Maxine. However, Maxine isn't the most understanding of assistants and this leads to hilarious consquences.

For example, in one advert Brian from Islington has just won playing Jackpotjoy on his mobile. To help him grab fun by the balls, Paddy asks Maxine to arrange a fancy spa session. Unfortunately Maxine interprets that as a sparring session and Brian is next seen being punched in the boxing ring.

Micro Pigs

Similarly, Neil from Gloucester also attracts Paddy's attention and is rewarded with some tickets for a theme part. Maxine misunderstands as per usual and takes Paddy's request to be sky diving in the dark! To be fair Neil doesn't seem too happy in the next clip which kind of goes against the ethos of grabbing fun by the balls. Other adverts see Maxine mix up an afternoon tea with an afternoon with bees, a holiday to Brazil with a teeth grill.

In her final mishap one winner is sent a micro pig hamper instead of a picnic hamper. There's also a longer advert (shown above) where Paddy tries to highlight the fact that there Jackpotjoy winners every minute. However his efforts are thwarted as Maxine orders nasal clippers, turns on the microwave and dims the lights before finally getting things right.

Top Gear

The adverts are a lot of fun and the play on Smart Speaker's not understanding a good idea. We've all been there shouting at the Amazon Remote Control because it can't understand the word 'Prime'. Incidentally the idea was also used in Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas Day special. In that show Alexa/Google were replaced by Maggie. In both cases we're unsure why the respected names were chosen!

It's good to see Jackpotjoy back advertising on TV as it's well over a year since Paddy McGuiness took over from Barbara Windsor. Whether this turns out to be McGuiness' last outing in his Royal Role remains to be seen. In 2019, alongside, Freddie Flintoff, Paddy will be taking over the reins at BBC's Top Gear.
