From Snowflakes To Solo Bingo Via Phoenix Nights

Published On 12th February 2018

Last week we reported that a number of sites were offering Superbowl Bingo cards. That's not unusual when it comes to a big event but using the popular game for current affairs most certainly is! The term 'snowflake' has become popularised in recent years to describe a generation that's prone to taking offence.

But how snowflake are you? To help you assess this, The Daily Mail have created their very own Snowflake Bingo Cards. They've listed 32 different things that people have recently become offended by. There include Dennis The Menace (bully), James Bond (womaniser), Dick Whittington (humour) and Are You Being Served (70s humour). You simply go through the list and tick off any that offend you. Get the full house and you win nothing but disdain from The Daily Mail and it's readers!

Solo Bingo

Helping to take our minds off snowflakes is the forthcoming Star Wars movie - Solo. This tells the story of everyone's favourite scruffy looking nerf herder and scoundrel before the events of A New Hope. The movie is already out in May and there's already a bingo card in circulation. Do some of the "numbers" predict what we can expect to see on screen?

Hollywood Bingo

As Star Wars fans we're not too sure about the Solo movie. Mind you, we weren't too sure about Rogue One either and that was amazing. The idea that we may see Han in Mos Eisley just before meeting Luke and that Harrison Ford may make a cameo sound exciting though. In some respects this bingo card has added more excitement to the film than the recent trailer!

Staying with the silver screen, initially we were excited to stumble across an article on 'bingo in the movies & tv'. The Hollywood News reports that the game has featured in Better Call Saul, Bad Grandpa and The Babadook. A couple of other examples are offered but it's safe to say that Hollywood hasn't exactly given much on screen time to bingo.

We do recall that a movie based on bingo was mooted a few years back. However, we can't find reference to it on Loquax or elsewhere. However, we are surprised that Hollywood News omitted the following bingo related clip from Phoenix Nights. See if you can spot Henry The Hoover!

A Possible Big Win For Bankers

Movie directors may not like bingo, but according to This Is Money, bankers most certainly do! This is because they're due to pocket a massive £111million if the takeover of Ladbrokes Coral by GVC goes ahead. The deal between the two companies has been agreed but it's pending an investigation by The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

The CMA want to see if the merger of GVC, which includes Foxy in it's stable, with Ladbrokes Coral will result in a "substantial lessening of competition" within the sector. The results of the investigation will be revealed in April. If the deal does go through then The Bankers will be celebrating their big wins!

Bingo Calling

Finally it's back to Hollywood for one last bingo story this time care of Hollywood.com. Miley Cyrus has made the news by sending birthday wishes to a 90 year old bingo caller. Shirley Claire featured in Miley's 2017 video for Younger Now. She also appeared on stage with the singer at the MTV Music Awards. Miley was unable to attend her friend's birthday party, but instead sent balloons to mark the occasion.
