Hippo Bingo Review
Animals and birds are popular icons for a bingo brand. Joining the fox, cow, duck, chicken and crocodile in the bingo stakes during 2011 was the third Dragonfish brand from Silverspin (formerly Quick Think Media). Hippo Bingo joins the likes of Lucky Charm and Bubble Bonus in offering players the standard network platform bingo and slots alongside it's own exclusives. Head on over to enjoy penny games, free bingo and a monthly prize game too.
Introducing Hippo Bingo
Hippo Bingo actually launched in 2011 but has been revamped a couple of times since then. Players can access the site on all devices including mobile, tablet and desktop. No app is required. Unfortunately the latest revamps have seen the demise of the site's main character - Hetti the Hippo. This leaves the site, like many others that have suffered under UKGC compliance just that little bit lost. If you visit a site called "Hippo" then you'd expect to at least see at least one hippo! Instead you're greeted with a deep blue underwater scene with bubbles rising to the surface. Maybe there's a hippo in there somewhere.
Hippo Bingo Welcome Offer
New players to Hippo Bingo are offered a £20 bingo bonus plus 20 bonus spins on the Starburst slot with a deposit of £10. Wins from the spins are paid out as games bonus. Register, login and deposit £10 to receive the bonus. Note that this is the maximum bonus on offer so depositing more won't increase the amount you receive. Wagering terms apply to both bonuses and these are x4 for bingo and x80 for games. The latter is hefty, but typical for Dragonfish, and players should familiarise themselves with the full details that are on the site.
You can try Hippo Bingo for free and without making a deposit either. Register and login to the site and access The Daily Doozey. This free bingo room should be open for 72 hours after registration for a series of games. Wins from these free games are paid as a bonus and therefore wagering terms apply. Note that the free games are 75 ball which we find unusual. The most popular rooms on the Dragonfish platform are 90 ball but new players aren't given the option to try these with no deposit needed. Depositing players have access to other free games.
Hippo Bingo Promotions
As well as free bingo, inside the Hippo Bingo lobby you will find a handful of exciting pay to play bingo rooms. Hippo Bingo offers 75 ball and 90 ball bingo as well as 52 ball roulette bingo. The lobby area has improved recently and it easy to switch between bingo rooms and slots. Under the bingo tab you'll find Daily Jackpots, Bingo Roulette, Specials, VIP and All. The 75 ball and 90 ball tabs are where you'll find the main active rooms - High 5, Chatterbox and 90's Extreme. Typically expect to pay 5p or 10p per ticket for most games but there are penny bingo options as well as more pricier games.
All other rooms are jackpot rooms such as Mystery Jackpots and 100 Spins - also known as the WOW room. This game plays play nightly at 9pm Sunday to Thursday and gives you the chance to win slot plays. Look under the Free section for more free game options for depositors including Freemium, Quids In And Sunday Sizzle. Under Invite Only you'll find the Big £10K game. Hippo also has a Prize Bingo room that it shares with other brands. This game plays each month on the 16th and offers prizes such as an iPad or shopping vouchers. Regular depositors can earn weekly rewards including spins of the hippo bingo wheel to earn extra bonuses.
Slots are available to play at Hippo Bingo. The lobby area for slots is greatly improved and this makes accessing new slots, instant wins, jackpot games and scratchcards a lot easier. Top slots include Starburst, Rainbow Riches, Millionaire Genie, Slingo and many more. When we last reviewed Hippo Bingo, we noted that they had a decent social media presence on Facebook. That sadly is no longer the case as the Hippo Bingo Facebook page is now left to fester. Their Twitter presence ended back in 2015. It seems like social media is now the arena for big brands only.
In the past we described Hippo as "a fun site hidden away amongst a sea of more well known brands". These days though the brand's exclusives aren't stand out enough and that means we now have pretty much just another Dragonfish powered brand. The loss of Hetti as the focal point of the site is sad and means Hippo has lost a lot of character. The penny bingo games and free bingo are plus points and we like the weekly rewards. The prize game that runs on Hippo and others within the same small group are for us the main reasons to visit.
