Earlier this month we told you about forthcoming changes at Gala Bingo Clubs. A rebrand to Buzz Bingo is currently underway and a couple of locations have already changed their name. This change is to differentiate the retail arm of Gala, which was sold, and the Galabingo.com brand that's now part of Ladbrokes/Coral.
As part of the rebrand, Buzz Bingo will also launch an online bingo service. We've learnt today that this service will be on the Playtech platform. This means that Buzz will be using the same software as the likes of Gala, Sky, Mecca, William Hill, The Sun and Paddy Power.
As well as offering online bingo and slots, the partnership with Playtech will allow players to play online and in-venue from a single account. According to Gaming Intelligence "the full omni-solution channel will be live" by 2019. However, it's not known if the Buzz Bingo online service will open before then.
The decision by Buzz Bingo to opt for Playtech is an interesting one. On the one hand they're looking to differentiate themselves from Gala, but to some extent will be offering the same slots, network promotions and games. However, Gala does have plenty of exclusives such as The Chase, Coronation Street and Emmerdale so the sites won't offer all the same options.
That said, the choices available to Buzz are quite limited. Jumpman's bingo platfom is all but dead whilst Cozy Games perhaps isn't a strong enough option. Gamesys could have been a possible option - and we think an interesting one, but perhaps couldn't offer the single wallet solution. Dragonfish seem to be treading water at this point in time and perhaps not moving forward for an exciting new brand.
That pretty much leaves Playtech as the only viable option. The Virtue Fusion Network does seem to be the only one offering big promotions, game variations and evolving at a time when online bingo is struggling. It'' be interesting to see how much buzz there is for Buzz Bingo when it finally joins the online bingo world.
