Bingo 80 - Play 80 Ball Bingo

Published On 26th March 2024

Last month we told you about the arrival of the new Joy Bingo game at Jackpotjoy and other Bally's titles including Double Bubble, Virgin Games and Rainbow Riches Casino. Well it seems that this isn't the only new game to be added to the bingo roster at these sites as Gamesys are heading back to the 80s with a pixelated graphic themed 80 Ball Bingo game. From just 1p a ticket players have the chance to win on one line or a full house plus there's the Magic 80 Progressive Jackpot which is only won if a Full House is won on ball number 80. But is Bingo 80 a worthy new addition or is it best left forgotten alongside 80s inventions like the Disc Camera and Betamax?

How To Play The Bingo 80

When you first enter Bingo 80 at Double Bubble or Jackpotjoy you'll be greeted with a relatively unexciting room. On desktop the game area is split into two sections with the calls on the left side and your game tickets on the right. If you've not purchased any tickets then the left side is a pixelated graphic that looks akin to old school ZX Spectrum games. If you remember things like Horace Goes Skiing or Sensible Soccer then that's the kind of graphics to expect. Of course it looks a lot better than images looked in the 80s - and to think we all thought back then it was cutting edge stuff. Anyway to play Bingo 80 you simply need to purchase tickets by clicking the big red 'Buy' button located at the foot of the screen. You can choose to play between 1 and 50 tickets per game and although tickets start from 1p we found that most games are 5p per ticket.

One Line & A Full House

80 Ball Bingo is played on a 4x4 shutter grid and the balls are split into coloured groups of 20 (red, green, blue and white in this case). At eyes down the numbers are called as is normal for all numbered bingo games. As this is Bingo 80 with an 80s theme the bingo balls are in the pixelated style. The aim of the game is to cover your numbers before all players and in 80 Ball Bingo there are prizes for one line and the full house. During game play the tickets on the right hand side will move around as you get closer to completing a win. What we like about this particular version is that the tickets will highlight just the numbers you need to complete one line or the full house once you're down to 3TG. This makes the tickets really easy to see and also to follow the action. Although this is an 80s themed game the background music is the same one that's used in all Gamesys' rooms which is OK but there are options to switch it off alongside other game options.

Magic 80 Progressive Jackpot

It's fair to say that game featured with Bingo 80 are quite limited. There is a Magic 80 Progressive Jackpot though but to win this is going to require a lot of luck. This is because in order to win the jackpot which at time of writing was just £52 you need to call house on the number 80. We're not quite sure what the odds of that occurring are but we're predicting that it's quite a long shot. Firstly you need to have the magic 80 number on your bingo card and then hope that when you're on 1TG that the ball to get you the full house is the number 80. Note that the Magic 80 Progressive is only available on the full house so you'll get nothing extra for calling a 1L win that number. One thing that would be a useful inclusion on this game (and indeed on all games with progressives) is some back history of when the jackpot was last won and how much was won. Our trackpots used to be perfect for this kind of thing but then operators stopped sharing data and so now it's hard to get hold of this kind of detail.

Our Verdict

80 Ball Bingo isn't a variant that many operators have added to their platforms so it's nice to see it appear in the Bally's stable. This is a nice looking version of the game and it plays well. We do love the 80s theme too although do feel that perhaps more can have been done to fully immerse players in that era. For example we'd have liked some appropriate 80s tune to be playing in the background as opposed to the standard bingo music which is better suited to an elevator or caller on-hold system. The progressive jackpot is a nice addition to the game and it'll be interesting to see just how high the prize pot gets before it's won. We'd love to know the odds of a full house being called on a single number (we guess the info is out there somewhere) and how often progressive winners are made. Maybe the information about previous winners is on Jackpotjoy, Double Bubble etc but we can't seem to find it.
