The Rubik's Cube is going through a renaissance and the latest product, The Rubik's 360 is expected to be a top 10 toy for Christmas 2009. Not content with that Rubik is now getting in on the online games action with the fantastically brilliant and addictive Rubik's Riches.
It recently launched at Ladbrokes Games and our first instinct was this might not be that much fun - we were wrong. Thankfully you don't have to solve the cube puzzle to play Rubik's Riches, but you do have to get lines of colours to win on each spin of the cube. Essentially it's a slots type game which has 21 different win lines (3 cube faces and 18 cube lines).
The fun of the game kicks in when you light up the six letters of the Rubik's logo. You get to remove labels from a cube to determine how many free spins you get and how many cubes that are in play during the free spins. On our test game we had 5 cubes running and you can win (lines and faces) on each one.
Rubik's Riches comes with a music track that falls somewhere between The Krypton Factor and Axel F from Beverley Hill's Cop. It wouldn't be out of place in an 80s Techno Disco... a fitting soundtrack for the cube!
