Battery Force Competition Complaint Leaves Them Drained

Posted on: February 18th, 2010 by Jason 14 Comments

Over the last five years Battery Force have been running a daily free battery giveaway. However, as of the 18th February 2010 the company have pulled the promotion due to a complaint made about them on a public forum. The company explain their decision on their site as follows:

Unfortunately, a complaint from one winning participant in February 2010 has forced us to end the promotion. We would have loved to continue the promotion indefinitely, but we simply don’t have the capacity to deal with completely unjustified complaints, especially when they are made in such a way as to question our high operating standards in a public forum: We’re giving away batteries for free, and in turn a winner tries to damage our outstanding reputation – a sad state of affairs.

Having read the forum in question the complaint arises due to an issue over delivery. The prize failed to turn up due to a delivery error and it seems after an email exchange that Battery Force wouldn’t resend the prize. Why they couldn’t resend the prize is a bit of a mystery? Looking in from the outside it probably would have been the right thing to do.

Still, it’s their decision, but it does seem odd for Battery Force to pull the competition that’s been successful for so long due to just one complaint. They’ve had over 1500 happy winners and perhaps after a bit of reflection they may reconsider their decision when they look at the positives.

Running competitions can sometimes result in problems – we ourselves know that all too well (as do McVities, Magnum, Orange etc) – and the key to overcoming them is being responsive, even if you disagree with the winner’s or comper’s point of view. In this case it might “only be a packet of batteries”, but if a company awards you a prize then you should expect to get it (provided you reply in a reasonable time frame) and regardless of any delivery problems.

Anyway if it is the end of the Battery Force prize draw then so be it. It’s been good fun for five years and they’ve made a lot of people happy with their service and prize draw. Although it was only some free batteries many compers actually saw it as a personal challenge to win the daily competition. It’s sad to see it go, but the disappointing ending could really have been avoided.

Ive had a few small prizes that have never turned up (last one was a packet of seeds). But its hardly worth moaning about and I usually send an email, and if I get no reply forget about it. hardly worth getting all worked up about a packet of batteries. Shame it’s ruined a competition.

I won two or three times. Delivery was always within a couple of days. Sad to see an end of a great competition.

Although I never won, it was a nice competition, easily entered, useful prize. I also spent time browsing their website, and sure others did to, which is the object of the excercise.

It does seem a harsh decision to end the promotion due to one complaint.

I understand where Battery Force are coming from, But I hope they realise that a minority doesn’t make a majority, I hope after they read this blog they change their opinion. Why cut off your nose to spite your face. It was a great competiton I have won a few times and always had the batteries when they said, even a little chocolate with them once. I’m sure they generated a lot of business through the competiton and think its sad they feel they need to take this cause of action, Hey battery force life isn’t simple and in business as in life you get odd knock backs. We at loquax want you back and hope this blog as restored your faith.

I have won four times over the years and received the batteries within 2 days. I just find their reaction now a bit pathetic.

This is a shame – as I was still trying to win a pack…most days 🙁

awww… i have won twice and think its a really good comp. sad to see the comp ends because of one complaint 🙁

I’ve won and ordered batteries from them (as a result of being aware of them through the comp) The service was excellent for both. I too will miss my daily unfortuantely email at coffee time.

I’ve won three times with this competition, so easy to enter, and I did it every morning I remembered, such a shame for them to finish it over such a minor problem as things do go missing in the post. I hope they reconsider and carry on with the competition.

I won several times with this competition. As a comper i would say to them there our lots of us out there who enjoyed that competition and to the person who complained just block him from future competitions. I would have banned him!

I won once and must say the delivery was just 3 days. Was still entering daily in a bid to win again. Sad to see this easy to enter competition end.

Aa always it seems these days, a sad ungrateful whinger puts paid to what is a fun comp that I always enjoyed entering and was lucky enough to win a few times and received.
The reason for moaning at the promotors was uncalled for and should have been aimed at the company who failed to deliver. So sad we have lost a little daily fun.
