How Many Sprouts Can You Fit In A Bath?

Posted on: November 24th, 2011 by Jason 8 Comments

Aside from the appearance of the Coca Cola Truck, there’s nothing that signals the arrival Christmas more than the annual debate about sprouts. Love them or hate them you’ll probably end up eating them. For best results mix them with butter and fried lardons or chopped up bacon (top Loquax culinary tip of 2011).

However, if you’re not a fan of sprouts then why not put them in your bath?

No we’ve not gone mad – but it might help you enter the Christmas competition from Better Bathrooms! They, in association with Homebuilding and Renovating magazine, are offering the chance to win a contemporary bathroom suite complete with a freestanding, contemporary Bologna slipper bath, a 1200x800mm quadrant shower enclosure and shower tray complete with Ecobar shower system; a choice of left or right handed shower enclosure and tray is available. The full prize package has an RRP of over £2,300.

They’ve topped up a bath with sprouts and they want to know “how many love ‘em or hate ‘em sprouts will Santa’s elves manage to squeeze into their beautiful bath”? The person who guesses nearest to the actual number will be getting a bathroom makeover!

Now there’s three ways to approach this competition! Firstly you could make a random guess! Secondly you could buy a lot of sprouts and count them in and count them back out again or you could go for the Scientific approach of figuring out the average volume of a bath and the average volume of a sprout and determining how many average sprouts go into said average bath!

If you go for the latter approach you might want to take into account that the bath (as shown in the picture) looks a little overflowing in sprouts. You have until 4pm on the 19th December to make your random guess, cover your own bathroom with sprouts or whip out your calculators and do some sums.

I left a reply but seems to have vaished?

Basically said I hoped there would be an adjunicator counting the sprouts in and out..

I used the scientific approach- think of a number (several in this case) type them in and multitask – ie cross your fingers and believe in the comping fairy..

I made a randon guess! When my boys were smaller i called them giant peas and they would eat them – now they wont touch them!

I love this type of comp,I have visions of someone counting the sprouts in the bath and losing count then having to start again, over and over.

I just made a random guess as life is too short to even think about tring to replicate the sprouts in a bath to get a correct figure.

We also need to know how fat/slim these sprouts are…

I still remember in the very early days of Loquax a member won a Christmast competition – the question was “What’s your favourite wine for Christmas”, and her winning entry was “BUT I DON’T LIKE SPROUTS”.

Can’t remember which member it was,and wonder if she is still on here?

I agree with the “life is too short” and guessed.

I wonder what happens if more than one person guesses exactly right. Do they each win or does one person get the new bath and the other the toilet and sink? Have they thought this through?

someone would need to eat a lot of sprouts if they did “do it for real”. You could be a mathematician and work out the cubic measurement of the bath and the average sprout. Calculate how much space there would be around each sprout. Work out how many would balance on the top. Take into account the plug and the taps. I think I will just guess!!

Lol – I’m a geek – it’s official! I’ve worked out the cubic measurements of the bath – found the average dimensions of a sprout…………….and then took a calculated guess! Good luck to all who enter :o)
