Win £5000 As A DFS Armchair Athlete

A delayed summer of sport is about to get underway first with the Euros 2020(+1) and then The Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo. Hopefully there aren’t any issues or further cancellation. Plus here’s hoping that we all get the opportunity to enjoy watching these sporting events in pubs and other venues without restrictions. Big sporting events are usually great for compers as they bring about a whole host of themed giveaways. We have seen some Euros competitions and today there’s one inspired by Team GB and the Tokyo Games.

Create Your Own Armchair Athlete Event

DFS are giving away £5000 in their Armchair Athlete prize draw. They want you to come up with your own Armchair Athlete event. As examples they’ve suggested Cup Stacking, Flip It and Tea Pong, but surely you guys can come up with something a lot more inspired. How about the 50m desk chair dash for example (if you use this and win we’ll happily take our share of the prize off you!). To enter you simply need to film yourself playing your event. Then once it’s looking great on video make sure you share it on social media tagging DFS #ArmchairAthlete.

It’s Just A Prize Draw

Disappointingly this is a standard prize draw rather than the winner being the best video/event uploaded. The terms clearly state “There will be one competition winner, selected at random from all valid entries for this competition received before the Closing Date”. Now that’s fine but surely this promotion would be so much better if the best video/event won. In theory I could put up a shambolic video of me brushing my teeth and that would qualify as an entry.

What! No Judging!

We do wonder why brands go to the effort of creating a fun competition but then bottle it at the last minute by running scared of judging. DFS have signed up Vicky Holland (triathlon), Adam Peaty (swimming), Jazmin Sawyers (athletics) and Max Whitlock (gymnastics) as brand ambassadors to why not ask them to select a favourite? Anyway, £5000 is a decent prize and for a few minutes creativity it will at least get you into the prize draw. The closing date for entries is the 31st August 2021.

Keep An Eye On Entries

Although the prize draw is only a few days old a quick look on the #ArmchairAthlete hashtag on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook suggests that no one has entered as yet. So why not give it a go? Our advice is don’t leave things to the last minute. Grab your mobile device, think of a fun activity (melon shot putt could be another idea), and just video it. Make sure the lighting is good, that there are no distractions, that everyone is clothed and there are no unusual objects in the background. Then you’re pretty much good to go. £5000 couldbe yours for less than 10 minutes effort!
Note that Loquax hasn’t been paid to write this content. We just like the competition.
