Cathedral Competitions from ALF Group Limited are a relatively new raffle site which only launched in April 2021. They're hoping to make a real mark on the sector and with a residential property developer behind the venture it could be an interesting one to watch. However there are numerous raffle sites and not all are as successful as Elite Competitions. The property on offer in this competition is located - we understand thanks to eagle-eyed Loquax visitors - in the Kent village of Wingham. And we also have a valuation as the promoter themselves say that the property on offer is worth £500,000.
As far as we know the property on offer is a new build. According to the information provided on the site it has a 10 year NHBC home warranty. We believe that the house boasts three bedrooms including one with en-suite. The kitchen has oven and hob Neff appliances as well as co-ordinating worktops and matching upstands. Although the house won't be fully-furnished it does come carpeted and tiled where appropriate. Images of some of the rooms can be seen on the website. The website also states that the property comes with no Stamp Duty to pay and no solicitor fees.
How To Enter The Competition
To enter the competition you need to answer the incredibly easy multi-choice question and then select the number of tickets you wish to purchase. After that it's simply a case of heading to the checkout and completing payment. There is a free entry route though and this is outlined in the terms and conditions. Note that to enter via the postal route then you need to send in a postcard via First Class post stating which competition you would like to take part in. You also need to include the answer to the competition question.
Over 15000 Ticket Sales
Cathedral Competitions give no indication of the number of tickets that are for sale or how long the competition is scheduled to run (we've set our listing to initially conclude at the end of 2021). According to the site the "draw will take place on the next working day after all tickets have been sold". In theory this means the competition can run and run. Based on the property valuation and a potential £100,000 donation to charity we've estimated that at least 13,000 paid tickets need to be achieved to reach a £600,000 prize pot. We'd not be surprised if the ticket target was much higher. Note that there are bulk options with respect to purchases and the price drops to £30 for purchases of four or more tickets.
Although there's no indicative closing date the terms do say that if a competition ends early then a cash prize "equivalent to 70% (minus marketing fees + transaction fees) of the entry fees" will be awarded. A lack of closing date however does concern us and we would like to see some idea of an end point. The price point is also considerably high and when you look at Elite Competitions struggling to see tickets at £9 for their latest competition then £45 tickets surely are going to sell even slower. Finally Cathedral Competitions are new kids on the block and without prior history, user base or winners of their other raffles this may count against them.
Despite making claims such as that tickets were selling like hot cakes and that half the tickets had been sold, this competition was closed by the promoters. We understand they are now in the process of issuing refunds. By the way they didn't sell half the tickets!
