A £125,000 recently renovated terraced home in Congleton, Cheshire, is the prize on offer in this competition posted on the Raffall platform. Tickets cost £3 each and the owner is hoping to sell 80,000 tickets by mid-September. A 75% cash alternative will be paid out if the raffle fails.

The house raffle mechanic is regularly picked up by property developers so it's no surprise to see this latest competition. Jenny Lomax has been refurbishing a 2 bedroomed home in Congleton and wants to offer it as a prize "to give someone the chance to own their own home for a very small price". That small price is £3 but the winner would also need to pay stamp duty if applicable plus any solicitor fees. This is the first time we've seen costs passed to the winner instead of being paid out from the profits of the competition.

How To Enter The Competition

As is annoyingly standard for Raffall competitions the locality is simply down as Congleton. The property is on a terrace but location details beyond that are limited. However we do know that it's a two bedroomed property with a living room that has the original Victorian fireplace. There's a kitchen/diner with a brand new fully fitted Howdens kitchen. According to the information on Raffall the carpets and underlay have been fitted from the stairs up to the two bedrooms and hallway. The rental potential of the house is given as £550-£600pcm.

To enter the raffle you need to be registered with Raffall. This can be done via Facebook or email login. Once at the house raffle page it's a case of answering a question and purchasing tickets. The question pops up in a window which we found disappeared very quickly. Tickets only cost £3 and there's no limit to the number you can purchase. You can purchase online using debit cards. As far as we're aware this property competition is not making any donations to charity.

80,000 Ticket Sales

Lomax hopes to sell 80,000 tickets (total revenue £240,000) by mid-September in order to conclude the draw. If insufficient tickets are sold then the winners will receive a share of the compensation amounting to 75% of all ticket sales. All compensation payments are guaranteed and paid directly by Raffall Limited. This is a little bit different to house competitions run by individuals and should offer more assurance to entrants. The fact that the previous competition concluded within 4 weeks may also encourage entries.

80,000 tickets for a house raffle doesn't seem a big number, but 80,000 tickets in less than 4 weeks is a big number. Properties with higher values and cheaper tickets haven't come close to that target in such a short space of time. Given that the developer aims to almost double their money on this competition we'd at least expect them to foot the bills for taxes and solicitor fees that may be due.
