Earlier in the year McKinney Competitions ran a property competition which was pretty much over before it began. Despite the hefty cost tickets sold very quickly. The company are hoping to emulate that success again but this time with an overseas property. On offer is a 3 bed villa located in Albufeira, Portugal. This is on the south coast of the country and situated about half way between Lagos and Faro. It'd make an ideal holiday home location. The property valuation isn't given on the site but the prize does include £30,000 spending money. Additionally the winner can opt to accept a £400,000 cash alternative.

The Property

The property being offered is described as a three bedroom villa in a small community that offers "access to a beautifully maintained swimming pool and surrounding garden". It also has a private garden, leisure area and an outdoor sunroom. As far as we're aware the property comes unfurnished - although kitchen appliances are included. Solar panels, a parking place, security system, cable tv & internet all setup are also included. According to McKinney the property could achieve a rental income of up to £50,000 a year! It isn't made clear on the competition page whether McKinney sort out the various taxes etc but we would be surprised if they didn't.

How To Enter The Competition

To enter the competition for the chance to win a three bed villa in Portugal or £400,000 cash you simply need to answer a multiple choice question. Note that you're not told whether your answer is right or not but the question is so absurdly easy that you won't need Google to check. Once you've made your selection it's simply a case of completing the purchase of your tickets. There is a free entry route offered for entrants who wish to take that option. Entry is via postcard and details about how to complete your entry are given on the website.

10,999 Tickets

McKinney Competitions aim to sell 10,999 tickets at £99,97 (total revenue just under £1.1million) by the start of September 2021. This may seem quite an ambitious deadline but their previous property competition sold out within days despite the high ticket price. Note that entrants can only have a maximum of two entries per household! If insufficient tickets are sold then we suspect that the closing date is extended until such a time that enough revenue has been generated to cover costs (just over 50% of sales). Over 1000 tickets were sold within the first couple of days.

Our Verdict

Usually we'd say that almost £100 for a property giveaway is a silly price and that this would have no chance of completing. However McKinney Competitions have got previous and been successful. But can they emulate that success again? We think they probably can as they're already a quarter of the way to "covering the costs" and with a huge social media following should be able to get this one over the line.
