Given the success of Omaze UK's competitions it's not surprising to see others look at the model for raising fund for charity. The Great Big House Giveaway brings together Kingswood Homes and Derian House Children’s Hospice who hope this venture will raise funds for the good cause. The property being offered is located in the Green Hills Development, Blackburn and it's a new build. According to the site FAQ it won't be ready until the end of 2022! The property is valued at £250,000.
About The Property
As the property hasn't been built you'll just have to take the builder's word on what to expect. The site describes the prize as having "three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a generous open-plan kitchen/dining/family room running the entire length of the property". A visit to Kingswood Homes however does give a better indicator of what to expect! The house won't be furnished but it will come with a ten-year NHBC warranty. The winner won't have to pay anything because the host will cover the cost of Stamp Duty land tax, land registry fees and reasonable conveyancing fees.
How To Enter
Entry to the The Great Big House Giveaway is simply by purchasing tickets. There are no questions to answer. Tickets for the competition cost £5 for 6 entries. Unfortunately you can't purchase less than £5 worth of tickets. Other ticket packages cost £10 (15 entries), £25 (40 entries), £50 (100 entries) and £100 (250 entries). For a free entry you can send a postcard or envelope to the address given on the website. Full details are provided on the site. A maximum of one entry can be made per postcard or envelope received. There is no limit to the number of entries that may be made by post but the last date for acceptance is the 8th September 2022.
Ticket Targets
The only target for this competition is one for fund raising. We understand that Kingswood Homes have gifted the property and therefore aren't taking any of the proceeds. According to the FAQ "Derian House Children’s Hospice aims to raise at least £250,000 from the Great Big House Giveaway – the cost of buying the house". Additionally the promoters state that "100% of the profits are going directly to the charity" and "every penny of your entry goes to Derian!". However this will be "minus reasonable administration costs".
Our Verdict
Although the property on offer isn't as glamourous as those put up by Omaze, The Great Big House Giveaway is adopting a similar approach and supporting a very good cause. Interestingly they're aiming to raise more money for Derian House (£250,000) compared to Omaze who guarantee "a minimum total payment of £100,000 for the charity" being supported! The good news for entrants is that the prize draw should guarantee a winner albeit we're going to have to wait a while to get to that point. Hopefully this won't be the last The Great Big House Giveaway promotion we'll see on Loquax.
