What's On Magazine, an independent company owned by Michael and Anna Townsend, are offering the chance to win a four bedroom country house in the Sedlescombe area of East Sussex. Sedlescombe is close to the town of Battle which is where What's On Magazine are located. The property on offer doesn't seem to be listed for sale but it is currently available for rent according to
Tripadvisor. The owner of the rental is a Michael T so we can safely assume that the property is owned by the owners of What's On Magazine. If you visit
The Move Market you'll find images of the property when it was bought back in 2000. That site values it at under £800,000 whilst the owners give values of between £800,000 and £850,000 across the Raffall page and video.
About The Property
The property comprises four bedrooms each with it's own bathroom. According to the accompanying video the rooms are all across one floor so the bedrooms are joined by a large kitchen, large living room and an air-conditioned conservatory. There are a few images of the rooms on Raffall but the Tripadvisor link above gives you a better insight plus there's a room layout there too. In the half acre of land you'll also find parking for up to six cars, a storage building and of course a heated swimming pool. The prize includes the house, furnishings, stamp duty and legal fees. It's perhaps not a surprise that this property is used as a rental so if you're thinking of that as a possible idea Group Accommodation suggests a £3000 a week price!
How To Enter
To enter the raffle you need to be registered with Raffall. This can be done via Facebook or email login. Once at the house raffle page it's a case of answering a question and purchasing tickets. The question pops up in a window - for this particular competition you'll need to answer a multiple choice question about the type of products that you wouldn't buy in a bar. It's pretty easy! Tickets cost £5 each and there's no limit to the number you can purchase. You can purchase online using debit cards. Enter early enough and you might be able to pick up a discount. The prize draw is being run to support Alzheimer's Research UK and 5% of the host's revenue will be donated.
200,000 or 340,000 Ticket Sales
The promoter hopes to sell either 200,000 tickets (total revenue £1m if all tickets sold at full price) or 340,000 tickets (total revenue £1.7m if all tickets sold at full price) by the start of 2025 in order to conclude the draw. It's unclear which of these targets is the real one as both numbers are quoted on the Raffall page. Hopefully that's something that can be amended to avoid confusion. If insufficient tickets are sold then the winners will receive a cash payment amounting to 50% of the total ticket revenue generated for this competition. All compensation payments are guaranteed and paid directly by Raffall Limited. This is a little bit different to house competitions run by individuals and should offer more assurance to entrants.
Our Verdict
After the last two Raffall property prize draws resulted in cash winners because of limited sales we did wonder whether a potential renaissance for the platform would be over before it began. But here we go again and potentially with a more attractive property. However this one isn't currently featured on Raffall's "Public Raffles" (July 2024) which is a surprise. We also couldn't find any other promotion for it although there is a link on the What's On Magazine site. Although the closing date is a long long way off it's good to get sales momentum underway. It'll be interesting to see whether the audience reach of the magazine will help sales because it's hard to see Raffall doing enough to get things over the line. Overall it's a nice property that could appeal to many. Let's hope it does well.
