Barges or Narrowboats are the new win a house features and this is the third one to pop up on Loquax in 2023. Unlike the previous two similar prize draws which were based in The UK, this one takes us over to France. Exactly where in France is a bit of a mystery because according to the terms the "exact location to be discussed after the end of the competition". However the prize does include a three day orientation to the boat by the current owners so we're guessing you can use that to move the boat to whereever it needs to go - well within France anyway. The barge is valued at €275,000 which is roughly £235,000 at today's exchange rate. We have nothing to compare that too so will just accept the owner's valuation

About The Property

The prize itself is a beautifully renovated custom built canal boat. It comprises of two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen/dining area. There are a few images and a video on Raffall but in our view the owners could have provided a little bit more info (unless in fact that's all there is to see?). But a video tour of the boat would have been nice! Anyway Les Vieux Pappilone - as we think the boat is called - also includes Victron Solar Panels, Generator and a whole host of other stuff to make it work. As mentioned above the winner will get three days on board with the current owners to get to grips with the barge plus there's a £2500 cash sum included that we guess will be useful for flights, accommodation, insurance etc. Mooring fees (unknown cost) are paid through June 2024 but after that it's down to the winner.

How To Enter The Competition The Prize Draw

To enter the raffle you need to be registered with Raffall. This can be done via Facebook or email login. Once at the house raffle page it's a case of answering a question and purchasing tickets. The question pops up in a window - for this particular competition you'll need to answer a multiple choice question about the capital of England (you'll know this is you entered the Tommy French Competition recently posted). It's pretty easy! Tickets cost £5 each and there's no limit to the number you can purchase. Look out for some early bird discounts. You can purchase online using debit cards. Guide Dogs are being supported by this particular prize draw and 5% of the host's revenue will be donated. However it should be noted that this only applies if the property is won!

60,000 Tickets

The hosts are aiming to sell a maximum of 60,000 tickets at £5 each (revenue £300,000) in order to be able to giveaway the prize. Tickets need to be sold by the end of March 2024. If insufficient tickets are sold then the winners will receive a share of the compensation amounting to 50% of all ticket sales - at least according to the competition details. Further down the Raffall bit says this is 75% so we're not clear why there's a discrepency. All compensation payments are guaranteed and paid directly by Raffall Limited. This is a little bit different to house competitions run by individuals and should offer more assurance to entrants. Usually with property prize draws there's some leeway in terms of completing the deal with 50-75% of ticket sales but we don't think that may be the case here as the hosts' profit margin looks very tight.

Our Verdict

Forget about your million pound Omaze properties and "guess the cash amount the winner will receive" from Raffle House, the new property prize draws are barges! Maybe not! But at least it's nice to see something different amongst the various other listings and it's good to see that Raffall hasn't quite died a death when it comes to property raffles. Whether this particular draw results in a new boat owner or a cash amount remains to be seen. We think the hosts will really need to push marketing wise to get across the line. The 50%/75% cash alternative discrepency in the text does need to be fixed though. Enter Competition Here
