In the past we've tended to focus on UK based house competitions but have included one or two from Ireland. They included the successful Win A Feckin House that concluded in 2018. This competition is being hosted by Roscommon GAA who promote Gaelic Games and Irish Culture in County Roscommon, Ireland. They've previously ran Win A House In Dublin and that was successful - although not included here on Loquax. They're hoping to repeat their success with this raffle and we are told that it is open to UK residents.

How To Enter The Competition

The prize on offer is a 2 bedroom apartment - 502 Hercules House, 18 Botanic Square, London City Island E14! There are images of the apartment on the website but note that they are just of the showhome. It all looks very nice and would make a lovely home, crash pad or rental property for the winner. One thing to note is that the winner will be responsible for costs including solicitors fees, stamp duty and registration fees. Service charges will also be a factor and the website doesn't give any indication of what these may be. However a quick Google and we believe them to be around £3800 per year!

To enter the competition you need to enter a multiple choice question. The question is "which river flows past the UK Houses of Parliament". Select your answer, enter your details and then complete the transaction online to purchase your entry. This draw is under Irish Law which means that there isn't a no purchase necessary route. To fulfill the legalities entrants become a social member of Club Rossie and the draw is for private members only. Once purchased, no refunds will be issued except in the case of cancellation.

100,000 Ticket Sales

Roscommon GAA hope to sell a maximum of 100,000 tickets (total revenue £10 million) by December 2020 in order to conclude the draw. This draw date has been extended from May 2020 due to Covid. The ticket target obviously seems a lot and a huge profit but we suspect there is a more realistic target at which the house can be awarded. If for any reason that insufficient tickets are sold to complete the draw then a cash alternative will be awarded. This is described in the terms as "equal to the total amount of payments received minus reasonable administrative costs, not to exceed 30% of net payments received".

The property on offer is very desirable but this is an expensive competition to enter. 100 Euros might give you the chance to win this apartment but then it could also pretty much enter you in every other competition currently open! The biggest concern for us with respect to this particular raffle are that the costs are on the winner's shoulders. That could be between £9750 and £30,000 depending whether it's a first home or second home (figures may need checking). The success of it's predecessor - Win A House In Dublin - is one of a few positives.

GB Residents Excluded

Unfortunately as of the end of December this competition has been forced by The UK Gambling Commission to exclude GB residents. All effected entrants will receive a refund. Full details of this update are on the website. Enter Competition Here
