Over the years we've seen a number of different properties offered in pay to enter prize draws, but we think this may well be the first narrowboat - we'll need to go and check through the records. Oakhums Narrowboats have a a 2023 Oakums Narrowboat, O-Drive Exclusive that they'd like to giveaway. They say that the value of the boat is £208,000 brand new. Oakums are based in Northwich and for the sake of this review we've set that as the location. We're guessing that the winner of the narrowboat, should the prize draw reach it's target, will be able to berth it at an appropriate location of their choice, subject to fees etc.

About The Property

The prize is described as luxury and with 6 berths. Oakum state that it has been designed for both living and vacation customers. The boat is brand new this year and has several customisable features including paint job and upholstery. The prize comes with solar panels, electric oven and hob, diesel water heater, toilet, shower and designer fridge. There are no details about moving the narrowboat to a desired location, insurance, fees or anything else that may be required by the new owners. There's also no details about ongoing running costs and/or any potential income if the winner chose to rent out the boat as a holiday let.

How To Enter The Prize Draw

To enter the raffle you need to be registered with Raffall. This can be done via Facebook or email login. Once at the house raffle page it's a case of answering a question and purchasing tickets. The question pops up in a window - for this particular competition you'll need to answer an easy multiple choice question about objects that can and can't fly. Tickets cost £5 and there's no limit to the number you can purchase. You can purchase online using debit cards. As far as we're aware there's no donations being made to charity with respect to this particular prize drw.

40,000 Tickets

Oakum are aiming to sell a minimum of 40,000 tickets (revenue £200,000) in order to be able to giveaway the narrowboat. Tickets need to be sold by the end the first week of August 2023. If insufficient tickets are sold then the winners will receive a cash prize. Now Oakum are suggesting that the amount will be 50% of net revenue whilst further down the prize draw page the amount is the usual Raffall draw amount of 75%. All compensation payments are guaranteed and paid directly by Raffall Limited. This is a little bit different to house competitions run by individuals and should offer more assurance to entrants.

Our Verdict

With houses and apartments in short supply in the win a house stakes it's nice to find something to include in the list. This Narrowboat is actually worth more than some of the properties we've featured on our "very dated" website (quite courtesy of Win My Home). If you've ever wanted to hit the waterways of The UK then this prize is perfect and the ticket price is quite tempting too. We would like to have seen more detail about running costs, moorings, insurance etc as these costs are important. Our biggest fear though is that the prize is a little bit too niche for the majority of people who consider entering these kind of prize draws. There is the safety net of the cash alternative but some clarity is needed on whether it's 50% or 75%.
