Grand Design style properties occasionally pop up in the property raffle sector and this one is in that bracket. Tindale Towers is a huge Art Deco property in Bishop Auckland. Owned by Mike & Jule Dean - owners of a furniture company in the North East - it seems that this house has been on the market for quite a few years (Pressreader.com). The owners claim the property is valued at £3.6million - although it's on sale for a lot less than that according to Rightmove - and according to that report has attracted just one viewing in five years. In an attempt to drum up interest The Keens are now raffling the property which has featured in multiple news articles and even the TV series "Britain's Best Home".

About The Property

The house is something else - as you'd probably expect with the price tag. It boasts 5 en-suite bedrooms, bespoke kitchen, sauna, cinema room, games room, swimming pool, dance floor, 3 double garages, large gardens and CCTV throughout. The property is spread out over four stories and includes under floor heating. Check out the Raffall page for images of the many features - and do check out the swimming pool. Wow! The winners' legal fees are also included in the prize. However important details such as running costs, bills etc are not mentioned. For a property this size you're going to need some deep pockets to live in it and maintain it.

How To Enter The Competition

To enter the raffle you need to be registered with Raffall. This can be done via Facebook or email login. Once at the house raffle page it's a case of answering a question and purchasing tickets. The question is mutliple choice and you're not told if you're correct or not - but the question is easy and Google is always your friend if you need some help. Tickets cost £25 and there's no limit to the number you can purchase. You can purchase online using debit cards. As far as we are aware there are no donations being made to good causes as part of this promotion.

100,000 Ticket Sales

The owners of Tindle Towers, Mike and Jules Keen, aim to sell 100,000 tickets (total revenue £2.5million) by April 2022 in order to conclude the draw. Recent property draws on Raffall have concluded without reaching the designated target so there may be some flexibility in this number. If insufficient tickets are sold then the winners will receive a share of the compensation amounting to 75% of all ticket sales. All compensation payments are guaranteed and paid directly by Raffall Limited. Note that if 100% of the tickets are not sold then the promoter receives nothing.

Our Verdict

As a property prize this particular is up with many of the Omaze homes. But there are a few issues. On Raffall the owners state the home is worth £3.6million yet they've got it up for sale on Rightmove for £2.24million. That could be seen as misleading and should be fixed ASAP. It's also a bit of "no no" to have a property on the traditional market whilst raffling it. The ticket price is quite high at £25 but in terms of property value we're actually impressed the hosts aren't too far off their estate agent valuation. The biggest problem is why hasn't the house sold after being on sale for so long? If the current owners can't sell it then what chance have the next? Any winner would need to be able to either move the home on very quickly to a new buyer, find a willing tenant, or be able to afford to own the property and maintain it to a high standard.
