Nigel and Jane Chaloner are offering this property in a competition to raise up to £100,000 to support the vital work of Severn Hospice. The property is fully furnished and includes "an outdoor hot tub, gym equipment and sit on lawn mower"! The images of the property can be found on the site. How To Enter The Competition

Entry to this particular competition costs just £2 a ticket. If you opt to purchase 10 tickets then you'll get one extra free whilst you'll get two free when buying 20 tickets. Once choosing how many tickets to buy you have to qualify your entry by answering a question about Charles Darwin. Don't worry if you do not know the answer as you're told whether you're right or wrong before completing the purchase. We're not quite sure if this is in the spirit of the skill requirement needed for these kind of competitions!

There is a free entry route for the Win My Dream Home competition. Details can be found within the FAQ. Note that it is one free entry per household by first class post! These entries will not count towards the required total for the property to be awarded. The Chaloner's are aiming to sell a minimum number of 385,555 tickets (£77110) before the closing date of May 31st. If this number isn't achieved then the closing date will be moved to a final date of July 8th 2020.

Charity Revenues

Although The Chaloner's are highlighting their desire to raise £100,000 for the Severn Hospice there are caveats. If 500,000 tickets (£1million) are sold then a donation of £100,000 will be made - this max ticket number was increased to 550,000 during the competition. The promoters "require the sale of 385,555 paid for tickets at £2 per ticket to achieve a break even donation to Severn Hospice of £70,000 (increased from £10,000). If 500,000 tickets are sold then that brings in £228,000 more revenue - so we don't quite understand the maths behind this aspect of the competition.

If the minimum number of ticket sales is not achieved by the second closing date then the property may still be awarded subject to promoters discretion. However we'd be more inclined to believe a cash prize will be awarded in this case. According to the terms 90% of sales net to date will form a cash prize to replace the first prize of Grafton Farm and 10% will be donated to Severn Hospice. We presume some costs will be taken into account for the final figure.

Our Verdict

Grafton Farmhouse is a stunning property and we like the ticket price of £2. All entrants can get extra free entries by referring friends to the competition. We have a couple of concerns! Firstly the "skill question" doesn't seem to require any skill whatsoever. This may not be the fault of the promoters but we do wonder why nothing has been done by CAP/ASA to qualify what "skill" means. We know other competitions have closed because the question was too easy!

The aim of the promoters to raise money for Severn Hospice is commendable and the terms have been updated after our original review. Now the promoters will make a £70,000 donation if the minimum ticket sales are reached. This sum increases to £100,000 if the maximum tickets are sold. This is better than the £10K originally outlined in the rules.

Closed Early

After only being open for ticket sales for two weeks, Win Grafton Farmhouse has closed. According to the website: "All tickets have now been sold! If you have already entered, watch out on our social media pages for information on our draw". This is quite an incredible feat and instantly puts them down as the fastest selling house raffle. How they've achieved this would be interesting to know. We wonder whether the lack of sports betting and lockdown factors may have made people seek other options where to spend their money. The £2 ticket price most certainly seems to attract entrants versus pricier competitions.

The winner of the competition was announced in a live draw on May 14th 2020. Alison Bellamy of Telford won the property whilst three winners shared cash prizes for the referral competition.
