A couple of pubs/businesses have opted to try the house raffle route and here's another one. This particular property is located on The Wirral and at the "edge of the docks in a fabulous area of mixed commercial and residential premises". Usually it's difficult to value these kind of properties but the owners have kindly included a valuation of £305,000. Linda McNamara is the owner of The Park View Pub and hopes the idea of owning a new business in 2022 will attract punters to purchase a ticket. They're in for a tough challenge as we don't think any previous "win a pub" raffles have come close to completition.
About The Property
The pub area has recently been modernised and includes bar/games area, parlour/lounge area and access to the cellar. On the first floor there's a kitchen lounge and bedrooms. We're not clear whether these are the living quarters or the letting rooms that are described in the text. The current owners would like the pub to continue trading but acknowledge that the use of the building could be changed. If you're wondering how the pub is running and new more background details then we suggest visiting Own A Pub which covers a lot of detail. For example "net profit runs at up to 40% of turnover".
How To Enter The Competition
To enter the raffle you need to be registered with Raffall. This can be done via Facebook or email login. Once at the house raffle page it's a case of answering a question and purchasing tickets. The question pops up in a window - for this particular competition you'll need to answer an easy multiple choice question about bar products. Tickets cost £100 and there's no limit to the number you can purchase. You can purchase online using debit cards. A charity donation will be made and 5% of the hosts revenue will go to The Oliver King Foundation. Note that this depends on the property being sold.
8000 Ticket Sales
The promoter hopes to sell 8000 tickets (total revenue £800,000) by the end of September 2022 in order to conclude the draw. If insufficient tickets are sold then the winners will receive a share of the compensation amounting to 75% of all ticket sales. All compensation payments are guaranteed and paid directly by Raffall Limited. This is a little bit different to house competitions run by individuals and should offer more assurance to entrants.
We like the fact that the owners have put together a decent website and social media set-up in order to market their raffle. However house raffles are struggling to succeed and to date pubs and businesses just haven't done at all well when they've tried this particular mechanic. We think people like the idea of having a mortgage free property but not so much a business to deal with as well. Throw in the fact that the ticket price for this raffle is £100 and that equates to a difficult sell. But in house raffles you just never know and if there are 3500 to 4000 interested would-be publicans or property developers willing to take a punt then we could be surprised. However past experience suggests this will most likely end up with a cash prize.
