Here’s another of those once in a lifetime type prizes we like to flag up every now and then on the Loquax Blog. The Royal Mint are running a competition and they want you to create a 2012 London Olympics design for the 50 pence piece.

If your design is chosen as the best entry you’ll win £1000 cash and a gold version of the coin. On top of that your design will feature on the 50p coin and it’ll remain in circulation for years to come. A truly unique prize!

The competition runs until the 24th April and you’re going to need to be creative for with your entries. The design needs to be based on 1 of 27 events that run at The Olympics or Paralympics. The Royal Mint have given some useful hints and tips about putting your design together, so make sure you read those before starting your entry.

As well as the national competition, The Royal Mint are running a second competition aimed at schools. Again you need to design a 50p coin but the coin design must feature the sport cycling.

Prizes like this don’t come along this very often, so why not use the Easter break to put together your coin design? It’s your chance to be part of London 2012 and Royal Mint history.

Might have an attempt at this. Off work with bad back at moment so plenty of time to think about design. Would be amazing seeing a coin that I helped design being used. Great prize!
