March 15th always sees a flurry of St Patrick related competitions with Guinness and trips to Dublin on offer, but rarely are there competitions for St David, St Andrew or St George. This year though Bombardier are running a number of promotions to promote St George’s Day (that’s on April 23rd by the way!).
There’s a petition to make St George’s Day a National Holiday. Over 100,000 people have signed so far, but a similar petition to make St David’s Day in Wales a holiday sadly failed, and it would be a surprise if the Government introduces changes for England and Wales (actually, no it wouldn’t be!).
On to the competitions. First up you could win £1000 cash. We expect this to be low entry as they want entrants to send in a photo of themselves (or a friend we guess) performing a toast with Wells Bombardier, plus a written description (no longer than 50 words) of what you did, and where you did it. The prize is £1000 cash plus a uniquely crafted, three inch diameter silver medal too. Get your entries in via Mr Postman by April 28th.
Bombardier have also teamed up with The Daily Mail and to run a Pictures of England competition. You’ll need your camera out again for this competition as they are “looking for readers to submit photos that they think embody the spirit of England”. Top prize includes a brilliant Kodak professional camera kit worth over £450 and so far there are only 680 entries! Closing date for this photo competition is July 30th 2007.
