Did You Know: Your Twitter Handle Could Win Prizes

Launched: 2018

Facebook Twitter

Free Money Lotto launched in 2018 with the aim to run a lottery/prize draw based on social media usernames. Initially kicking off as a daily draw the competition now runs weekly on Twitter only. The Facebook competition has been suspended until the site manages to acquire more than 500 followers. Occasionally they may run flash prize draws.

How To Enter

Entering the Free Money Lotto is really easy. You simply need to follow them on Twitter. You can earn additional entries by sending a tweet letting others know that you're in the draw. One lucky follower will be selected as a winner and this will be posted on the website. If you visit and your Twitter handle is featured then you can claim the prize of at least £5. Prizes will be paid via Paypal or Amazon. Free Money Lotto gives a full list of all their winners.

This competition is open worldwide. However at time of writing the brand only has around 700 followers. Their Facebook page has managed to acquire just under 200 followers and it doesn't look as though these draws will return any time soon. Prizes are funded by advertising such as Adsense, which is fine, but we found clicking on navigation links generated pop-ups which was really annoying. A recent update (June 2020) suggests the site isn't making any significant revenue.

Our Verdict

This is a frustrating lottery site. It is giving away small cash prizes but perhaps lacks support from entrants whilst struggling to build a userbase. This isn't the fault of entrants because Free Money Lotto doesn't give players any reasons to return on a daily basis. If they rewarded visitors extra entries for visiting daily or participating in surveys/offers then this may improve their financial standing. However hiding adverts/pop-ups on pages isn't a good experience and puts visitors off returning.

In our view there's a good idea here - after all a social media username is more modern than a postcode - but the execution needs to be assessed. When you consider that Free Birthdate Lottery and Free Lucky Lottery have paid out less than this site it's sad to see it struggling. We're sad to say that unless Free Money Lotto reassess their offering then it's hard to see how it will thrive longer term.
